quick mobile question
Hi,
Got my new contract with a nokia 6500 slide, is the little G in a square (which i think means a gprs connection) supposed to always be 'on'? if i go into logs->packet data counter if it always continuously going up, am i being charged for that or is it supposed to be that way?

not to worry mate. 9/10 phones always have a connection in the background. you will only get charged when you physically use up MB's on the web0

ah cool thats good to know, was just getting a bit worried when the packet data counter started racking up 8 hours lol0

think of it like broadband, its an always on connection0

I'm afraid you're completely wrong. On the Nokia 6500, the G means there's an active packet data connection, and as the OP said his data counter is going up...
Packet data connections are not quite "always on" in the same way as broadband.
If you're racking up usage, you're going to be billed for it. Although of course packet data is billed by data transferred - not time the connection is open.0 -
as far as i know im not actually using any data, but the counter is still going up and up, ive set the packet data to only be on when needed ad it won't go off0

ive worked with mobile phones for years and have never been or seen anyone else get charged for it activley sitting in the back ground. I get it on my viewty both G and a H which is "broadband" like speeds, never get billled for it.
It is a always ready connection that will change colour or do something when something chargable is happening eg receiving a picture message.0 -
I've got the same phone and it's also set to 'when needed'. I don't have the G on my screen. I'd check to see what my packet data count is but can't find where to do it in the menu!0
