Nationwide Card Reader

I just tried to transfer money from my Flex account & I no longer can unless I use their card reader. This is a pain because the reader only works with the new card they sent (I'd avoided using it so far because of the hassle of changing my details at zillions of sites). Looks like I'm now forced to

Has the card actually got a different number?

    Yep, completely different.

Extremely annoying since my original card was only a year old & doesn't expire until half-way though 2010.

That seems unusual, normally when they replace cards you still keep the same number.
    I feel for you fella!

Are all the banks issuing these card readers? I received one from Nationwide and one is on its way from Barclays, but hopefully not new cards.

A particular pain for me as the card normally lives in Jamaica with the mother in law
    I think....

    More info here:

    http://www.nationwide.co.uk/security/visa_debit_card_faqs/

Point to note - this only applies to those using a Visa Debit card. If you have the Flex Account "cash card" then you are not affected.
According to messages I have been sent by Nationwide if they send you a new Visa Debit card you can use the old card for up to 99 days in ATM and POS (shops) - then it will stop working.

You will need the card reader to carry out certain on line transactions 21 days after it is sent to you. You can make transfers within nationwide without the card reader - I assume flex to e-save transfers or possibly to other nationwide accounts.

You can't transfer to someone else's Nationwide account, that's what I was trying to do.

I've had exactly the same problem - def can't even do internal Nationwide to Nationwide payments without the card reader. Now need to get verified with moneybookers asap and change card on loads of sites. Grrrr

Do you have a card reader for another bank. They are interchangeable apparantly

The card reader is a complete pain in the backside. Talk about making internet banking difficult. I have already complained about it as I frequently go abroad on business and do not want to take the stupid card reader with me.
