Could be reviewed at any time, they used to put 'for life' on the forms then a relative of mine was reviewed within 2 years of being awarded for life....after he got it back (the refused so he had to appeal) he's only had one review in the 10 years since. I don't think anyone can even guess how long you would wait between reviews. In a way an award for a set length of time is easier in a way because at least you know when the review is due etc.

Review, you fill the forms in again etc, basically just like applying again. Send the forms in, they get any further evidence they want, they say yes/no, you can appeal etc if required.
One day I might be more organised...........

to be honest, it is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string!!! the decision makers for dla seem to be a law unto themselves sometimes, and make the stangest decisions regarding what (if any!) rate of dla to award! not sure of the exact statistics, but i know that it is a high percentage which get changed on appeal (if the person appealing is represented and attends an oral hearing).

i would try not to worry too much about being reviewed, just be thankful for now, ensure that you have got anything else you are entitled to (dla can increase certain other benefits) and if you didnt keep a photocopy of your claim, maybe ring them and ask for one - as well as medical evidence, as this will help when and if the time does come for review.

    hope that helps

I have middle care & high mobility components of DLA these were awarded indefinately in Sept. 02, (1st time claim). I had a review, which consisted of a multi-paged form to fill in in Sept. 07, had my reply ( in Jan 08) to say award remains the same and will be reviewed again in 2012.
  • there is now something called RPP (right payment program),basically an in definate award cant be reviewed in the first 12 months, after that approx 1% of all claims are reviewed(have to be re-applied for),usually these are claims where they expect your condition may have improved,or worsened
    I`m abit perplexed by kpwll,its usual for awards to be 12 months,2 years or 3 years,or indefinate,but 4years???

my eldest daughter had her award 2 years ago, she gets low rate and hers is indefinate.
I have just had a form through to fill in about whether she is leaving school or staying on and if she could manage her own finances when she becomes 16 in november. i have been expecting another form to re-aply as most children go on to adult forms at 16.
so i am confused as to how long her award will last.

    Hi woodbine,
It's quite common for me to confuse / perplex ppl, but that is what it stated on the letter that I received from the DWP, after telling me that my award will continue it states:-

'A further incapacity assessment will be made at a future date to ensure that you continue to meet the threshold of incapacity under the PCA. Your case is due to come up for a normal review on __/__/2012. We may contact you again after that date and you may be asked to fill in another questionnaire or be called for a medical examination.
We may contact you sooner if anything changes that could affect your entitlement'

If you take the date from when I filled the IB50 form in and returned it, the time before next assessment is actually 5 years and it was 5 years from initial award to the 1st assessment, (02 - 07).
I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Regards,

    kpwll

yes it does thanks, you gave the impression you were talking about DLA not I/B and the pca.
But bear in mind that from 2010 new rules on I/B mean that everybody will be reassessed regardless of when their current claim expires, although i rather suspect it will take a year or two to put everybody back through the system, and the PCA is alot harder to get the 15 points you need to pass than it was.
