What rip off merchants!
I don't think you are tight and seriously wouldn't consider paying such amount for the photos.
However, remember in the old days before digital cameras and pc's in every home? I often heard the question asked "If your house was on fire what is the first thing you would save?" Quite a lot of people said they'd save their photos. And I think even today a lot of our old photo's could be classed as some of our most precious possessions.
That being said, if you can afford a proper sitting for family portraits etc. I'd go to a small local photographer/studio who rely on customers rather than chance.
Just a few thoughts.

P.S. I guess the answer to the same question today would be "I'd save my pc/laptop". lol
many thanks!!
had a call from them today to ask why we have cancelled (on a sunday!) - told them and hopefully that's the end of it all now. thanks for everyone who responded!!0 -
No, you are not being tight - a single photo with them can cost £1000 - £3000??? These can't be normal prices or are they Royal photographers?
If you're not the most assertive person, it will be very hard to say no, especially if the pics have turned out well. Well done for cancelling - and warning us. :-)LBM - May 2008

I've had these idiots phoning me up. I must have given them my number when I gave them my address for posting me details. Had she told me the real price of the large photo, I would have ended the convo there and then!
They've phoned me on a sunday, but I was out, and the other night at 7.30. It didn't ring for long and by the time I got to the phone it cut off. Searched on the net for the number and it's their local studio. Fancy phoning me on a sunday.
I'm tempted to ring them and tell them to take me off their database, either that or give them a piece of my mind when they ring again. The lying gits can sod off. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
DH and I went to Venture a while ago. We bought the £25 voucher, which included a session and a small photo with frame. We thought it was a good deal. Anyway. So we went, had a good time and really looked forward to seeing the photos. DH was so unimpressed. He told me it looked like the only thing they did to make the photos different, is put up the brightness and contrast. ANYONE can take these style photo, and with the magic of photoshop you too can have high contrast pictures. When we were sold the voucher, we were told by the lady they keep our photos for like, 4 years. Then when we got to the actual sales of the photos, she said it was only two weeks. She tried her hardest to bully us into buying something. Then she tried to get us to get a loan! It was one of those, buy it NOW or you'll miss out on this FAB DEAL. I felt like she was going to keep us in there until we caved in. DH went to the bathroom and pretended to get sick so we could get outta there. It was awful. To be honest, it was DH who was the strong willed one!!! I almost caved for the £100 one but he said NO.
Yes, they photos STARTED at £500 for a decent size. Our 5X7 inch frame would have cost £75!!!! Total rip off. I am 100% certain ANYONE can do these photos. All you need is a digi cam, photoshop and a good printing place, which you can find online, and you can recreate these photos for 90% less than what they charge. Anyone who actually thinks they are good value is delusional.0 -
