A friend and her family used Venture last year. When they went to view they were really pushy and her Husband said forget it and they left with nothing. About four months ago Venture contacted them and offered them the full disc of pictures for I think about £60 (not quite sure but something like that) so she bought it and did her own0

A gift huh? And there you were thinking you were the tight one! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
There's a thread on Venture HERE
And IMHO no, you're not being tight. We went for a sitting, then just took the free pic and left the rest. There's no way I'm spending that sort of money on some photos, however nice.
wow, what interesting reading on that thread - wish i'd seen it before we went for the shoot as i would not have bothered. We've cancelled the viewing as no point seeing how nice the photo's are if i have no intention of buying. Must admit it was very bizarre as it's the only time we've been given any sort of voucher whereby the company continually call you asking when you will use it - now i see why!
thanks to all posters!!0 -

Before we went for the viewing (the whole shebang with the drinks and the large screen) we decided that unless the photos were utterly amazing and the best thing ever, we wouldn't buy. As it happened, they were nice but not that nice IYKWIM. I'd have paid £100 for them but not £1000.0 -
Do you not get a free picture at all? We got a free desktop picture - a 6 x 4 I think, and it was worth it going to the viewing just for that.

if we go to the viewing then we'll get a small free one, but i not really interested in going to have the hard sell - best out of it i think as there is a danger the photo's will be great, but i have other things to pay for this month, like food etc..!0 -
No, you're not being tight. i got conned into one of these sittings 20 years ago when DD was born and the photographer gave out vouchers on the ward! I was so stunned at the prices (then they were about £2-300 per pic - OH earned about half that per month!) that I slunk out speechless. Waste of everyone's time.
Oh, DD recently had a studio sitting - came out with a handful of glossy A4 sized pics plus CD for about £250. I guess the poster who was offered the CD for £60 is the canny one for walking out - damage limitation for the studio - greedy gits.0 -
No way are you being tight.. my mate Ivor is a semi pro.. he charges 200 quid to do your wedding. and then a further 2.50 ( yes two pounds fifty pee) per print....bit more for A4... covers his time, and developing costs.... a family sitting would cost you about 150 quid all told.. with plenty of shots to hand out to anyone you dislike enough...0

What rip off merchants!
I don't think you are tight and seriously wouldn't consider paying such amount for the photos.
However, remember in the old days before digital cameras and pc's in every home? I often heard the question asked "If your house was on fire what is the first thing you would save?" Quite a lot of people said they'd save their photos. And I think even today a lot of our old photo's could be classed as some of our most precious possessions.
That being said, if you can afford a proper sitting for family portraits etc. I'd go to a small local photographer/studio who rely on customers rather than chance.
Just a few thoughts.

P.S. I guess the answer to the same question today would be "I'd save my pc/laptop". lolOne of Mike's Mob, Street Found Money £1.66, Non Sealed Pot (5p,2p,1p)£6.82?
