i spoke to customer services on saturday the 4th of august regarding their policvy which has been discussed on this thread and here it is

Thank you for contacting us about the acceptance of coupons in our stores.

All Tesco specific coupons display the Tesco logo. We'll only accept these at the till if you buy the product shown on the coupon at the time.

We're happy to accept a non-Tesco product coupon even if you don't buy the item. But, the coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the product. If you present more than one identical coupon you need to purchase the same number of products. This also includes coupons printed from the Internet. Some of these vouchers may be subject to acceptance at the discretion of the Store Manager.

I have received an email today with a £1 off printable coupon for August PCpro magazine, but you have to buy it in WHSmiths.

The barcode does not look like it will scan in t's unfortunately...

Bizarrely on Saturday, I went into Tesco to get the book and to use other coupons off my shopping and the only coupon that Tesco would accept was the Daily Mail coupon - admittedly against the correct book, but she said the manager had introduced that you now had to buy the product and wouldn't accept any of my others as I hadn't bought the products. She even got a supervisor to confirm.

Think I'm going to have to email customer services to get an email copy I can carry around too, but guess it will still be overridden by the "Store Manager's discretion" - huh!
