I think the thing people are missing a point here which is that you used to be able to use your NUS membership and more recently the £10 NUS Extra card to buy, with 10% discount, in HMV. Yes, you can just go online and buy it of course, but what if you wanted it there and then and you were in HMV - you could use the discount on sale items for example...

Anyway, it now appears that you must obtain a HMV student discount card and that HMV are no longer in partnership with the NUS Extra scheme [well I can't find any info on the NUS Extra website]...

There is this here link that explains about the HMV student card and how they don't have any more available now!

It seems to me like a bad move - students will go elsewhere, Zavvi who do seem to offer student discount with an NUS Extra card and Cd-Wow or Amazon who also allow student discount online... I'm not sure why they would alienate such a big demographic, it seems slightly bizarre to me.

With Zavvi you need a student discount card for them which you get by showing them some Student ID whether thats NUS Extra or a University ID Card. In fact the way HMV do it is better as they just give you a card when you show ID (even NUS Extra) , Zavvi make you fill in a form with all your details.

But the problem with our HMV is they havent been telling customers about this new card, so none of us can get discount now theyve stopped taking NUS!

I understand that it is frustrating, but they don't have to give out any discounts, so whilst I agree with Hollydays that it might be worth e-mailing the head office, the chances are the best you an expect would be a couple of vouchers by way of an apology, but no guarantee that a simliar situation couldn't arise next year.

Agree with this,I suppose it depends on the companies attitude is to this promotion.I think hmv is a reputable company (I could be wrong) you could try asking why you were not told, but i take RadoJos point.
