    Innovate,

I have edited that post, it was relating to my post #13, and giving my suggestions on what the selling form *should* look like.

I knew it read wrong, just couldn't be bothered to edit it. I t now reads right.

Blimey, what's happened to this thread :rotfl:

I have to say, I agree with Wig that it should be made clearer that accepting paypal means that you need an upgraded account.

Wig, the problem with what you are suggesting re. different 'flavours' of paypal acceptance, is that ebays policy is that ALL sellers should have merchant accounts regardless of how they receive their payments. You will not change their minds on that, because it means more money for them!

Soo, as final comments from me on this matter: in my opinion, eBay could - and should - make it dramatically more clear what ticking the "I prefer Paypal" box entails. They could and should it also make clearer to the buyers what sort of Paypal payments a seller accepts. This should be very straight-forward to program, and the only reason I can think of that this isn't being done is to 'entice' sellers to upgrade their Paypal account when they suddenly are confronted with the problem at auction end.

Given that eBay gave me a (quite substantial) FVF refund, and the buyer a non-payment strike, when I had - totally inadvertently - run into a problem on this matter, I would suggest that eBay very likely know that they do not have a legal leg to stand on with sellers who (largely, IMHO) innocently and with the best intentions, tick the Paypal box but have no intentions - or need! - to upgrade their Paypal account.

For experienced eBayers, and those who like me have burnt the fingers with this, the whole thing might not be a problem(*), but for 'newbies' it most certainly a pitfall that just begs them to fall into. I see no earthly reason why the T&Cs relating to different Paypal accounts shouldn't be enforced by the eBay application - - - in fact, the vast majority of them are, but funnily enough when it comes to eBay/Paypal having the opportunity to increase their revenues, users are meant to resort to reading the User Guide. Not exactly what I would call e-commerce or 21st century trading.

As a mere eBay user, I find the eBay/Paypal approach to this galling at best. Even - or especially - if I were an eBay employee or shareholder, I would have grave concerns over whether this is the best way to keeping customers, and getting new ones. In fact, if I find the time, I will ask a friend of mine who works in the EU Antitrust organisation whether this would contravene EU competitive legislation.

(*) I still do not comprehend why I (and therefore my buyers) should pay Paypal a %age of ALL my sales, even if no card is involved. Other providers, who I can selectively use for card payments ONLY, appear to make a healthy living even if they only get a slice of those transactions that involve cards, and they do this at a LOWER rate than Paypal. They also do this without the implied help from "mother eBay". So, for me, it's Paypal for non-card transactions ONLY - - and no, I have not seen any detrimental effect on my sales for taking no cards via Paypal. Quite the opposite - I don't need to inflate my prices to cover Paypal charges and people seem to be more interested.

I have been accused before of being too sensible and honest with my suggestions ;) Maybe it's because I hold the view that you should treat your customers how you yourself would want to be treated - fairly and honestly.

I'm in agreement with much of the postings.

PayPal should be behaving in a much more open way and give up trying to coerce "personal" account holders into opening "buisiness" accounts by misleading sellers into thinking that the seller accepts cards (via the pictures of cards that always accompanies the PayPal logo) when he does not.

Ebay should allow sellers to differentiate between the types of Paypal account they have so as to not mislead the buyers.

    - If eBay didn't own Paypal I'm sure they would've done so by now, don't you?
