My gf has an operation & now cannot go to CCUSA.
She did not attend the meeting she was supposed too, yet CCUSA say she has been accepted and therfore her £300 belongs now to them all because of a signature.
This cannot be legal surely?
She now has NO MONEY left thanks to these guys for the summer ahead.

You need to check the terms and conditions of the contract that she signed.
Surely she must have some money left - it was going to cost her a lot more to get to the US!Gone ... or have I?0 -
What's CCUSA?
Surely if she has signed a contract it's perfectly legal.
Is there a 'get out clause'. I.e. medical grounds?"Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

citizens advice bureau might be able to give you some legal advice. To be honest it doesn't look good.
Don't these sort of places usually give back 50%Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Did she inform then she wasn't going to attend the meeting?
And (I can't think of the right words here) is the operation a clinical necessity, as in not cosmetic or the like?
If she has been on a waiting list or knew she was likely going to need the op beforehand, I guess they could argue she should have said.
If it is something which has cropped up since and she needs the op done over the summer, maybe she could get the surgeon to supprt her?0 -

This is what signing a contract is all about. Did she take out cancellation insurance or have it on an annual travel policy?0 -
I read through the T&Cs and unless it is a life threatning illness, or the death of a parent/sibling there is no other way to get the refund once they accept you onto the program.
It does say "Calafornia Law Applies" at the bottom, outside of calafornia i wonder does this maybe give her an angle to come back at them?Halifax - Victory!

No, it means that if she wishes to sue them, she needs to do it under California Law!Gone ... or have I?0 -
i think it doesn't look good to be honest.
The best recourse is to apply for the money back through travel insurance. Does she/her parents have one of those "annual policies" or bank accounts that include annual travel insurance?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I would be v surprised if this was covered under normal travel insurance. It is not a flight or accom that she has paid for, but a placement arrangement fee.
However, it is possible that the £300 included some sort of insurance, that would be required for the trip to go ahead.Gone ... or have I?0
