Just over £6.30 by my reckoning, making the total selling charge of £22.59 or 11%

The total percentage decreases the more you take per item. As has been said before if you sell something for 99p it really isn't worth bothering, if you start something at 99p and sell it for £200 the percentage would be between 8 and 12%.

I average between 10 and 11% in total fees.

I get surprised reading on here people listing without knowing what they will be paying, either in listing fees, Paypal fees or final value fees.

What about the final value fee?

sorry, I was a little vague, what I called listing fee should really have just been called "Ebay fees" as it included the FVF.
    Bold Listing Fee ..............£0.75 £0.75
    Gallery Fee .....................£0.15 £0.90
    Picture Fee .....................£0.24 £1.14
    Item Subtitle Fee .............£0.35 £1.49
    PictureShowFee................... -- £1.49
    Insertion Fee ....................£1.30 £2.79
    Final Value Fee ................£6.16 £8.95

It was £6.16, but it was already included in the total, hence still around 8%.

The 5p listing days seem to attract a lot of newbies who think that the 5p covers the lot.

I agree, after these cheap days you often see listings from fairly new sellers with all the bells and whilstles enabled. I have always assumed they take out all the extras assuming the whole lot is free.

Mobile and Home Phones, Computing, Consumer Electronics & Photography are still at 5.25% up to £29.99, but Books, Comics & Magazines, DVDs, Film and TV, Music & Video games are now 9%.

I wonder why DVDs have now risen to 9% when I would say 90% of the DVDs on Ebay are fakes?? Hmm anyone got a logical answer? Are Ebay clamping down on fakes or profiting on a Global Scale?

They are probably clamping down - such a helpful and legitimate site that it is!! :T

Ebay take massive amounts of money for very little effort. I would like to start a rival. I would call it 2% auction site. I would charge 2% of starting price for listing, 2% of FVF and 2% of any payments (without ANY protection) similar to Paypal cos they offer none in my experience. I think I would be coining it in and majorly undercutting Ebay. Dammit I have given away my idea for easy $$$$
Edit - I would also make it prepaid posting to avoid the conmen out there!!

You're probably the first person to think of opening a rival site;). I know Ebay are profitable but there is a bit of work involved, having a site that runs several million listings costs a fair bit to run (it would probably cost a lot more to run efficiently!!).

You could probably start small and run at those charges, as soon as you start to get bigger the costs to you go up and you have to pass them on to the customer.

Ebay's biggest 'problem' was becoming too big too quick, they weren't equipped for the fast rise in users and are only just catching up with it now.

90% of DVD's are fake?!! Really? Have you any proof or foundation to that claim?

Given that between myself and 4 or 5 other major DVD sellers, we had around 30,000 DVD's listed at any one time over the last year or two, and I can gamble delicate parts of my anatomy on the fact that NONE were fake.

The DVD's have been at 9% FVF for well over a year now, the reason the fees went up is because of the extra functionality around listing DVDs and CD's. Ebay provided a service where sellers can enter a barcode number and all the information on that title is displayed, including a picture. This service comes at a price, and as the insertion fee is less in the media category (basic rate 10p, not 15p), the service had to paid for by another means - final value fees.
