Problem with Ibook and PCWorld warranty

Hi,
I have a 4 year old Ibook that has 1 month left on warranty I've just turned it on to check its still working and its not! I've checked everything I can think of but still no joy.
As its still under warranty I was going to send it off for repair but I'm concerned about there only being one month left to go. Do you think they will repair it or is it going to be more effort than its worth.
Thanks for your help

If it's in warranty it's in warranty. Doesn't matter how long is left."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Ring them up and do it now. We had long term cover for an old laptop after 4 years it died and because it took longer than 6 weeks to repair they had to give us vouchers for a new one. I rang them to claim vouchers 6 weeks and 1 day after it had been in for repair. Not so good if you need the machine desperately.
Edited to add it is a bit of hassle on the phone as you have to wait etc.... but worth it if you get the outcome I had.0 -
Then I'll give it ago, thanks for the advice.
The main reason I want it working again is to get to our photo collection. Having read our agreement it seems that they don't recover files from apple hard drives so could lose these. I can get someone to do this for me first but would mean dismantleing the laptop, would this be a problem? My concern is that it doesn't look in great condition and I'm worried that I could end up footing the bill for time and costs if its not covered.
Again thanks for the help0 -
Did you check if you had accidental damage cover on the laptop? I brought one from PCW because it came with accidental damage..
Worth a check...
iBooks frequently suffer from corrupt power management units, causing them to not start up. Try all these steps before sending it off:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50959
If you live near an Apple Store, take the laptop in, be friendly and ask if they can test it with one of their power supplies (give them the impression you might buy a new one so you want to check if yours is dead). You might need to book an appointment with the Genius Bar(?).
If it works buy a new one or send the power supply ff to PCW, else send the whole thing off to PCW.
Hope it helps,

I sent my laptop back when it completely failed they posted the hard drive back to me 2 weeks later and it still had all the info on so I put it into an enclosure and got my info off that way.
You could send your laptop off to be repaired, if they repair it all well and good if they cannot you will get a new laptop, then you will be able to get the info from the hard drive and do the same as me, that is presuming that the problem has not been caused by a hard drive fault.
Good luck with it, hope your hard drive comes back and is readable.0 -
Well I've taken all advice and the laptop has been collected this morning. Hopefully I will hear back soon.
Thanks once again.0 -
Sorry I'm late to this, and my advice may be a little late too

Definately contact them as soon as possible via a time-stamped medium if possible such as email or recorded delivery letter (of which you should keep a copy). A lot of warranty services are phone only but still make sure you write down the date, time and representitive when you reported it so there's no getting ugly.
Let us know the outcome!0 -
Update....
Well I've been called back and they are sending me vouchers as they can't fix it. Can anyone tell me how much these will be for as they couldn't tell me over phone. The guy on the phone thought it might be market value
.
Thanks once again0 -
Surely if it's under warranty they have to repair or replace it with a device of the same type/value, and surely new, rather than the "market value" of it.
I'd contact them and ask how much the value of the vouchers will be, and on what basis they calculated them, and check the T+Cs of the original warranty too.
Personally, I've had free warranties on devices, one in particular was a LCD screen that failed it it's third year, the manufacturer, took it for repair, but just swapped it for a brand new (and updated) model of the panel. No hassle no questions.
Have had similar service from John Lewis too. But I've never paid extra for an extended warranty, in my opinion they are a waste of money.0 -

Depends on the terms of the warranty."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
