Shell shop purchase

I bought a £20 Next gift card from a local Shell Shop along with some petrol. They swiped it, took my money and said the card was activated however when trying to use the card some weeks later it turned out not to be activated. Rang Next who said to contact Shell who said show us your receipt. Unfortunately I lost the receipt but thought my bank statement showing the transaction along with the thought that an activated gift card is non-refundable anyway might get somewhere with Shell - but it didn't.
So, out of pocket £20 because the Shell till operator didn't do his job properly!

I would say you have the same rights as someone that has purchased faulty goods. You don't need to provide a reciept if goods are faulty, only proof of purchase. A bank statement should be good enough. Perhaps write a letter?0

With the gift cards though they tell you to keep your receipts with them because you are supposed to get a receipt with card number on which is the actual proof of payment otherwise its like sticking a load of £20 notes on a stand!
Still sucks that they didn't do there job properly. Complain and see if you get anywhere, good luck.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

They should have a record of it going through the till probably with the last 4-6 digits of your card and the time of the transaction, if they can be !!!!!d (not that it's in their interests really) they could look this up quite easily.0

They won't have any record if the card wasn't swipped to activate it properly. There might be a record of the card being sold but if it was swipped and the card number recorded then there should be no problem with the card.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

Ring Consumer Direct, they will help you.0

Update - Consumer Direct are looking into it. Thanks hollydays. Complained to Shell UK who rejected my complaint for the same reason (no receipt) but also informed me that Shell retail forecourts are franchised sole traders. Perhaps I should write a letter to the manager there instead of going to Shell HQ?0

I take keeping the receipt was too much hard work
I detest people who make stupid decisions to throw away boxes, receipts etc then when it comes back to bite them blame someone else0 -

Maybe you should look into consumer law a bit more before posting, if that's not too much hard work.
If an item is faulty you don't need the original box. You don't need the receipt either, proof of purchase is sufficient.0 -

So are you saying you have the receipt and box for every item you have bought in the last 6 years?
Do you rent a warehouse to keep it all in?====0 -
