This weeks organic box turned up today with some Christmassy delights - including a bag of chestnuts. What do i do with these?
Roast them? Someone suggested brussel sprouts done with bacon and chestnuts - I assume I would have to shell the nuts and then cook them? Sorry, i am not familiar with these nuts.

Any nice recipes, casserole things to use them in? Thanks xPawpurrs x0

they go nicely with game or poultry0

If you soak them overnight then you will be able to use them in the same way as fresh ones in stuffing.0

My children and I have just been chestnuting and have a very large bagful! I would love to keep some for Christmas - does anyone know the best way to store them? It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0

not sure if you mean the chestnuts for eating at christmas i which case you could cook shell and freeze them OR the horse chestnuts for playing conkers with-they are definately NOT edible.
I havent yet found a way of getting them to keep the polished glossy look they have when straight out of the shell, they seem to go dull and dry within a couple of days. I have heard of people soaking them in vinegar or baking them in the oven to make them last longer and smash more weaker conkers but not sure how you would go about that.SPC~12 ot 124

Hi, sorry I wasn't clear - we have a large bag of sweet chestnuts. I didn't really want the hassle of cooking them all, I would much prefer just to store them as they are if it's possible. It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0
