AOL are a little vague about transfer/cancellation, see here -

I requested and received my MAC code from AOL and switched to 02.
I've just read this post and checked my email received from AOL with my MAC code, this is what it says:
Dear AOL Member,
You contacted us recently asking for a MAC (migration authorisation code) to enable you to migrate your broadband service to another ISP.
We can now confirm that your migration code is *********** It will be valid for 30 days and you need to use it by 16/05/08. Please note that if you use this code and you are still within your minimum contractual commitment period, any outstanding amounts due under your AOL Broadband Agreement will be debited from your payment method on or shortly after your first billing date after migration has taken place.
We recommend you file this email in a safe place as you will need to pass this migration code onto your new ISP. Please note that until the new order is processed, your broadband service will continue to be provided by AOL Broadband, and you'll continue to be charged by us.
We're very sorry you've decided to leave AOL Broadband at this time. If you'd like to return to us at any point in the future, we would, of course, be delighted to welcome you back. If you'd like any further information on the benefits of AOL Broadband, or to re-order, please don't hesitate to call us on our broadband helpline at 0844 499 5555**.
Alternatively, if you have any further queries about moving your broadband account to your new ISP, you can contact one of our experts online at AOL Keyword: Live Help.
We wish you the very best for the future.
I've just looked on the PC, which doesn't get used often and AOL is still live
not sure what's happening there, looks like a phone call to their oh so wonderful helpline, thought I'd finished with this. 0 -

Please let us know how you get on with this, it seems to be an ongoing problem with quitting AOL, I'll be looking to change to O2 in July when they go live on my exchange.
As for phoning the AOL helpline, I wish you luck, I know what it's like, been there done it like they say0 -

Success - :j
I actually used Livechat, I thought that as it was still live I might as well, I always had to ring before because the problem was lost connection
Basically my account hadn't been cancelled, she wasn't sure why but has assured me that a cancellation request has been sent to the relevant dept, I've already received the confirmation of the cancellation, I've also been assured that I won't receive any bills, so was all quite painless. Oh, and I printed the convo too

Always back up cancellations with your ISP with a letter stating the notice of cancellation.0

Just to let people know that after many emails and conversations my AOL situation has finally been resolved.
AOL have accepted their error and my account has now been cancelled once and for all (all be it over three months late) and I will be re-imbursed me for the three months I was wrongfully charged.
I think that this proves I was not a fault. I would just like to recommend to everyone transferring from AOL to not assume their account will be cancelled even if you are told it will be. As soon as you are connected with the new ISP let AOL know to properly cancel your old account. Am relieved that it is now sorted (and have nothing to do with AOL anymore) but can't believe how much hassle this has been.
Am now with BE broadband and have had has a great service from them. Fully recommended!
Thanks for all the replies all!0 -

Only if it is actually available in your area
And wow, I must check my other half's statements this month. I changed the billing over to my account now and will make sure they're not charging us both.
Hopefully, we'll be leaving AOL soon. I just have to figured out who to go to! (Mum is with BT at gets around 7.5 on speed and she is less than a mile away! I think mine has been limited to 2

I recently cancelled AOL via email. took several - you get an automated email back saying they will ignore your request unless you send another email [?], along with two other emails advertising the services.
Seems relatively simple, if you read through it all. We'll see if they honor it when my bank statement comes in.
With o2 Broadband now and I'd highly recomend them.0
