leaking washing machine

Hi all!

I hope i've posted in the right place. I wonder whether anyone can help me about a leaking washing machine!?

Basically water is gushing out from part of the pipe which takes the water out to the drain. It's not from the plastic pipe though, it is from a metal part attached to the side of the plastic bit which has a whole in the top (I'm really sorry for my rubbish description!). It is like the water is being pushed up there and out the top.

The earliest a plumber can have a look at it is on Saturday morning...however I currently have a load half done in the machine and guests this weekend so need to do a few loads for bed linen. I know my description is rubbish but does anyone know whether this is something I can fix myself, even if it is temporary, so that I can at least finish the load that is in there?!

Thank you so much!

Instruction here. Basically your picture needs to be hosted on an external site and then a link to in your post.

S5021543.jpghere Oh my goodness, I'm sorry it is so big and not the right way round :o When the machine is on, the water is gushing from the top of the metal pipe in the front (which should be rotated anti-clockwise to see it properly).

If you mean the pipe that is right in the centre of the picture, I would guess that your outlet pipe has a blockage, possibly in the U bend and the water is not getting out to the drain. The only metal that I can see is right at the top of the picture, which looks like the water feed.

Yes, that's the pipe I mean! Is it easy enough for me to take apart myself and unblock or should I give in and leave it to the professionals?!

Thank you so much for your help.

I would try to check that the U bend is not blocked by unscrewing the joints shown, assuming that you do not have a blockage outside.

I couldn't unscrew the u bend but thankfully my neighbour came round and was able to help.

Are you ready for this?! The u bend was blocked...by a china pestle from a pestle and morter!!! We rent this house and so it has obviously been there since the previous tenants!

Thank you so much for your help! Problem solved!!
