New oven/hob

  • Thanks guys, I think I'll sign up for ukwhitegoods and get to the bottom of this. There is a De Dietrich hob at £370 I like the look of (price) and I've heard if an induction hob does break (rare) its pretty much bite the bullet time as they're expensive to repair (no small/cheap parts to replace) so I can't see any of them being a cheap option so I might as well save the money now :D I quite like the look of the De Dietrich oven too. I suppose I could save up a bit more and get a Bosch/Neff induction hob but they're a lot more expensive and there's no free pans like De Dietrich.
  • We have a De Dietrich double oven and it is very very good. Solid design cool touch glass doors and easy clean pyrolytic action. But all the meals, meat, bread, cakes are wonderful, it really is a different world of cooking. De Dietrich

Keep an eye in B&Q for their special deals on their appliances (normally found in their kitchen magazines). We got a Hotpoint self cleaning oven and a Hotpoint induction hob for about £400 (can't remember exact price). The separate selling price for the hob alone was £400! We just missed out on another deal which would see us adding a Hotpoint integrated dishwasher for £14 extra.

Definitely go for an induction hob if you can - as good as gas for control but very easy to clean due to the pan heating up and not the hob so food doesn't burn on. Is a sealed unit with touch panel controls so no places for food to go meaning a quick wipe around and it's clean. Finally, mine has separate timers for each "ring" to automatically switch them off after a set time.
  • The experts at ukwhitegoods have confirmed there isn't an issue with fitting induction hobs above single ovens as long as there sufficient ventilation at the rear of the oven carcass. So, I'll just speak to my kitchen fitter but he comes highly recommended so I don't anticipate him not being aware of it.

They also suggested Neff over De Dietrich but I'm struggling to find Neff/Bosch at anywhere near the price of the De Dietrich plus it comes with free pans. They didn't say that DD were bad, just that Neff were better?

Thanks for the replies, its all helping me. I have a few weeks before the kitchen goes in, so I guess I have plenty of time to secure a cheap(?) Bosch or Neff induction hob.....
  • Currys have some good package deals, or Comet give you 25% off a hob when you buy an oven over £250. We need a new oven but we have gas in our kitchen and there is little choice for gas ovens (at Comet online only 10 compared to 179 electric ones!) and they are much more expensive. Considering getting an electrician to come and lay us a cable so we can have an electric oven. It might work out cheaper!
  • I have been a retailer of De Dietrich for 8 years now- we get very few problems but they are not up to Neff/AEG standards when it comes to reliability. The warranties of 2 or 5 years make up for that a bit, and the prices are certainly lower for similar spec models (not including the pyrolytic ovens).
