New oven/hob

Hi,
I'm considering getting a new kitchen as the current one is a bit old and the sink unit has been damged by water.
I will probably sell my oven/hob and get a new one to match the new units.
Can anyone recommend an oven & hob on a budget? I would prefer a single oven w/grill and hob in black. Ideally my budget for both would be £500 or so.
I have had an electric cooker for years and have never been happy with it when cooking with a wok. Would a gas hob be a better option for wok cooking and what about cleaning? Are there any gas hobs that are easier to clean than others?

Plenty of electric oven/gas hobs about at the like of B&Q etc for £350ish, in Stainless steel. At gas hob can be a pain to clean, dont let anything boil over!0

Thanks, it is a black hob/oven I'm looking for and have got some prices which were not too bad even for good gear like Neff and De Dietrich etc. I had a look round some kitchen showrooms today to get some ideas and got my first quote. They wanted nearly £1000 for one corner base unit and £560 for some drawers. That was for a Sheraton kitchen and definitely out of my budget. I priced up one on mfi and it came out cheaper. I had a look at the Ikea planner but unfortunately their corner unit is too big. I basically either need a 1000mm one or does anyone know if the Ikea corner units can be adapted to take a smaller door and a drawer otherwise I won't have a cutlery drawer (it's a small kitchen!)? I've seen some photos of finished Ikea kitchens and the 25 yr guarantee plus the good reputation they have on here makes me think it's worth looking into further.0

I have used Ikea kitchens in most of my developments and can highly recommend them. If you can DIY, it is quite easy to alter the base units to an odd size before you put them together. Odd size doors and drawers could be a problem with the cheaper end of the market.0

Thanks. As Ikea is 250 miles away, I think I will stick with a local supplier. I think it would be too much hassle hacking up the corner unit, so I could fit drawer unit in elsewhere. The guy from B&Q is coming round later in the week. I will probably mix and match, buying the worktops and appliances from another supplier.0

We're going black n white....

ust got Baumatic BF14.1M hob from Dixons, around £250ish & chose it for the bevelled edge appearence & good value, compared to some makes. You'll need to Pricerunner it, as it isn't listed in their site now.
The oven is Electroluc EOB6100 http://www.johnlewis.com/230421184/Product.aspx with the best price & looks really cool, with the lights n chrome pop out knobs - & 2 year warranty & best price £299
All going into Ikea gloss white kitchen www.theupsidedownhouse.9f.com
verrrrry soon!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope your project goes well. I'm lost when it comes to this type of stuff. I am pretty clued up when it comes to electronics and gadgets but hobs n' ovens is science to me! I bought a Hotpoint washing machine as it looked good (Aqaltis) only to read recent threads on here saying that Hotpoint are c**p. Oh dear.
Are all worktops the same size? I didn't like the ones in B&Q other than the £1250  ones and am going to look elsewhere.0 -
Worktops we liked were the Silver Frost special order in B&Q, but it couldn't be ordered in the size we wanted, so it was Ikea again.
We chose Stone Effect Black, although the grey or silvery colours are fine. We had just over 5m run for one wall - it had a join at 3m, although they do a 4m length. Plus the breakfast bar 2.5m X 1m. This has a virtually invisible join, where they 'roll' the edges on both sides at our request.
£560ish - less 5% in Ikea vouchers, as it was our first order on their Store Card.

Well what a rigmarole getting a kitchen ordered. Some suppliers and fitters didn't even get back to me. So much for the credit crunch eh? Well, I've got my kitchen ordered at least after getting a few quotes. I've settled on a chippendale kitchen, axiom worktops and a few other things. I've opted to get the appliances elsewhere but I have still to pick out a hob.
Are induction hobs worth getting? I don't mind getting some new pans, most of mine are as old as the hills, although I have bought a couple of new ones. Sela' vie I suppose.
How much is a cheap induction hob? Most are £500 plus
Also, does anyone have experience of a built in filter tap? I have a separate one at the minute (cheap b&q self fit kit) and want filtered water on top in my new kitchen but the choices in taps are limited compared to standard taps.0 -

Don't know where you live but I've been quoted £399 for this one at Discount Domestics in Wrexham, buyer collects (not at the website linked to, that was for illustration purposes). It comes with a set of 5 pans suitable for induction hobs which are supposed to have a RRP of £199. So that's a good price for the bundle.
From a quick google £300 seems to be about the cheapest like this.
I've always had gas and am about to renovate a kitchen in a house we are buying. Not sure if I will stick to gas or go for induction at the moment. When it was demonstrated to me I wasn't sure that I liked all the electronic beeping!0 -
Thanks for the pointers. I guess I'm looking for a decent brand for my money so I'll expect I'll have to pay for it. I just don't know if induction is any good or if its worth the extra outlay both for the inital cost and subsequent additional funds required to buy new pans....
I can get a decent Bosch for £325 (ceramic only). Decisions, decisions...0
