Hi can somebody please confirm that what I am doing is correct? I have added up my Electricity units used over a year and have the figure 4226.
I then added up my gas figures in the same way and obtained 13250.
After this I need to turn my gas figure into KWh to compare accuratly. This I did and have 417375 to enter for the gas KWh.
Is this correct? The reason I ask is I am getting major different figures from different comparasin sites. I am nearly ready to throw the towel in as its so frustrating. I look forward to some help and thank you.

    That sounds huge!
How did you get the 13250?
If it is from readings or bills?
It might already be in kWh.

Hi, I would be happy if you could decipher how I got my total lol and here goes. I do on line bills and the figures I got from my account were as follows. Then I did the conversion(recommended on the forum) into kwh which it says to do for gas. Maybe like you say its already done? I am after a yearly total to compare companys. Many Thanks
    GAS ( KWH)2

  • Hi,

I'm also trying to do this. I found a bill from march 2007 and one from march 2008 and subtracted the figures.

I get 1629 for gas which I think is 51608 kwh
and 2801 for electric cos you just put the figure in without changing it??

Not sure it has helped much tho cos I'm still getting npower coming up and I really want to switch from them!!

    Good luck.

KGLDSUN - Looks like those figures are already in kWh, making you a low user.
MSW - Your gas figure looks very high - did you use the 2.83? Check your meter, if it has m3 on it then you don't use the 2.83, which would give a more realisitc 17 202 kWh for a year - a little below average.

Hi thanks for all your help. I can say that my meter has 'cubic feet' on it and nowhere can I see a M3 sign. Does that mean I just add up the readings and that is the genuine usage? As you will see from my readings above(other post) it also states on my online bill KWH2. This is all swahili to me but I would really like to apply for a genuine comparasin of a like for like bill. Thanks in anticipation of help.

You will multiply the units used say 3 today times 31= 93 kilo watts used

always units x 31 gives kilo watts for ft3 meter

your figure 13250times31 [being ft3]=410750 which is near enough to yours of 417375 [ Use the figure 41000kw on the comparison sites] 31 being a quick conversion

I think that your readings have already been converted into kWh above.
The 'average' customer uses 20,500 kWh gas a year.
The above suggests 13,250 kWh - below average, but you may be smaller than average more efficient than average etc.

417,375 kWh is 20x the average and would suggest that you are using the gas for a commercial or industrial purpose. You're not smelting are you?

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I do have an m3 just above the numbers....what does this mean?

Will my supplier know about this or will they have been charging me more??
I have been paying £65 a month for a while and they say I owe them too!!
