So you're seriously saying that I have to take a cheque into the branch to deposit money into my ISA that I can view online but not do anything with???? That's not very green is it, all that petrol and paper!! HSBC are giving people money to get rid of their chequebooks at the moment. I have banked with Barclays my whole life, wondering now if it time for a change.

My tax haven isa has finally been opened this week, applied in march with £1.

I made an online deposit from my Halifax current account of £500 this week which shows as credited in my online Barclays tax haven account.

And you know what they do with the cheque and paying in slip? They send it in the internal post to the ISA department in Glasgow for "processing"!

I went into Barclays today and they said that I can pay in with cash. That they call the ISA department to make sure it is okay and then put it through. Goodness knows what happens to my money after that, but I shall make sure that I get a receipt for it!!!

Wahay, I went into my branch they rang the ISA Department and then transferred the money straight over. Just checked my online banking and it is in there already!!!

Still a shame that they have to go to all that faff for something that could have been done so easily online.

Out of interest - did you speak to a cashier or a personal banker?

I tried this last year with a personal banker for the tax beater ISA but they didn't want to know.

Did the ISA helpline transfer the money, or did the personal banker/cashier just check how much had been paid in via the helpline and then complete the transfer in branch? Hope that makes sense?!

    Many thanks.

I went to the cashier, who looked at me like I was crazy and then asked another cashier who phoned the ISA department to confirm my balance. He then just did a direct transfer from my current account into the ISA (I bank at Barclays by the way). All done in branch the phonecall was just to confirm my current balance.

You have to go through that everytime you want to make a deposit, but at least it is instant once done, no waiting for cheques to clear.
