The minimum BT contract is 12 months. It doesn't matter these days whether you physically signed or not.

If Talk Talk want you as a customer, won't they pay the £70 for you?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

we have had a similar problem,we moved house in december 2007 and moved our bt number etc with us,we have been a bt customer for about 16 years. We only had line rental with bt and phone calls through talk talk.We joined up to talk talk package as we were having major probs with aol and so have phone calls and internet in one.We recieved our final bill from bt and they charged us £70 as we have cancelled early, seems when we moved house we became new customers.I rang and complained and said i wouldnt be paying it and had to put this in writting about why i was disputing it.Yesterday we recieved a red reminder from them saying we need to pay.I am so annoyed surly we have been customers of there's for 16 years not just a few months.Even direct debit went out of same account etc when we moved.HELP are we really gonna have to pay this.

When you move home you are subject to new minimum term contract "If we continue the service at your new address you will be subject to a new minimum period from the date we provide service at your new address."
To be honest I can't see any provider going to the trouble of transferring an account/number to a new address and then letting a customer vanish off to someone else free of charge within a few months.
