What sort of moving?
Sell/buy?
Sell/rent?
Your query could mean any one of a dozen scenarios.0 -

Plenty of lenders will give mortgages based on Incapacity Benefit etc, but all seem to have different ways of assessing it. Some take certain benefits, but not others, whilst others do the opposite.
Ring round a few lenders and ask. Give as much accurate detail as you can about your deposit and earnings and see what they say.
You should be able to move house in this situation - we did it some years ago when I first had to take medical retirement. Whether you should do it is a different matter and is a decision which only you can make.0 -
be careful of the sharks out there, theres plenty of companies who will lend to you in your situation because you have equity (i presume), however they charge extorniate rates, high penalty fees and dont care wether the loan is affordable to you or not.0

Agreed. Most high street lenders will consider a mortgage for you, depending on your circumstances, of course.0 -
How can somebody on incapacity benefit afford to own their own house when I, working 60 hours a week in a good job, can't?
Can I please have incapacity benefit?Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
All depends on the mortgage size and the amount of benefit, also partners income etc.
why should someone who has since had to rely on incapacity benefit be restricted from moving if they have the income to support it regardless of where it comes from(providing they aren't blagging the system).
All my working life I have paid into the system, I have only ever taken out 4 weeks in unemployment benefit(in 23 years) I would hope the system would help me out if I ever needed it, I wouldn't be asking for more than my share but would hope that my income from long term benefits would at least be taken into consideration as income.0 -

I assumed, perhaps unfairly, that his wife wasn't working as if she working full time then the mortgage/benefits question wouldn't need asking.why should someone who has since had to rely on incapacity benefit be restricted from moving if they have the income to support it regardless of where it comes from(providing they aren't blagging the system).
Why are my taxes being used to buy someone else a house when i can't afford one?All my working life I have paid into the system, I have only ever taken out 4 weeks in unemployment benefit(in 23 years) I would hope the system would help me out if I ever needed it, I wouldn't be asking for more than my share but would hope that my income from long term benefits would at least be taken into consideration as income.
The whole "state benefits/pensions" thing is one massive pyramid scheame.
The amount paid in by people in their 40s/50s/60s was disproportionately low compared to the benefits they receive. Thus we have a £1 trillion index linked civil service pension blackhole... a bill for the pensions offered by but not funded by, those in their 40s/50s/60s.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -

I've had back problems.
Doesn't stop me using a computer. Or answering a telephone.
But that's not my point.
I agree that people who have been injured/fallen ill need state support.
What my question was (and I'm asking for opinion, not trying to be offensive) should taxpayers be paying so the the injured/ill person can end up with a highly valuable asset at the end of it? Or should that asset belong to the taxpayer..... the people who paid for it.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0
