you'll need to wait for AOL to get back to you with it so Tiscali can migrate you to them0
-
tiscali aren't the greatest of broadband isp's out there, have you not seen all the bad reviews of low speed, poor customer services etc?0

#mrj,i,m afraid i can't be fussy, can't get most,as no cable line here yet, also i want a telephone package with it,and Tiscali is £19.99+line rental a month = £35.00,talk anytime, broad band.i have a choice of about 5 in my area, and are all out of my price plan. Also i've had to put up with AOL for 2 years,i can handle just about anything......unless someone out there knows of any better packages, that work out cheaper,or the same?:T It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. :T

I'd recommend staying away from Tiscali.
Where do you get the impression that you can't be fussy, and that you only have 5 companies to choose from in your area? And "can't get most" coz you haven't got cable there - there are only two providers on cable, but 100's on ADSL.
Could you tell me which exchange you are on? Are you far from the exchange?
If you want to save money, and get decent service while you're at it, then:-- Choose one of the many ISP's that offer 2Mbps for approx £14.99pm
- Continue to pay BT for line rental at £10.50
- Use call18866, or 1899 for your voice calls - free UK calls (just 3p connection, for unlimited length of call), and cheap rates for all other calls.
Based on those charges, your line rental and ADSL charge comes to £25.49. Thats £9.51 cheaper than going with Tiscali. So, as long as you don't make more than 317 UK calls (9.51 divided by 0.03 connection fee for calls) - then you are going to be saving money, and getting a far superior service.
Post back with your exchange, and also your line stats if you can get them from your modem/router, and we can hope to give you some recommendations, and give you an idea of whether you can get 2Mbps.0 -
what sort of speed you looking for?
zazizam do unlimited 512k for £15.99 with phone option or £17.99 without
unlimited 1mb for £19.99 with phone option, £21.99 without
or unlimited 2mb for £29.99 with phone option, £31.99 without
they have an upto 2mb, 2Gb plan coming out shortly for £11.99 with phone option, £13.99 without. If your line can't handle 2mb, you'll get 1mb, if not that 512k
it is free to migrate in - minimum contract length is 3 months
hope this helps - most of the info is available from https://www.zazizam.com/broadband/home - they haven't published the cheaper option yet, but I have recieved an email about it. I may move over to it, from my unlimited 512k connection that i already have with them - which i have been more than happy with0 -
many thanks guys.......i understand now about adsl, apparantly i can get that.....up to 2mb?although hubby is not going for the 3 seperate bills option,#mhendo, sorry but thanks for replying to help......#mrj,i am confused as it says nothing on site about phone packages etc......maybe it's me but it looks like your saying its dearer without phone?so will phone them and check.....cheers guys....oh this is what the check said..........Checking BT ADSL availablity on 00000000000
ADSL Broadband is currently unavailable to you
Initial tests suggest your line cannot use our ADSL service
This could be because your local exchange is not enabled yet, or your local exchange is enabled - but you are too far from your exchange,
then i check on bt,and they say this.......
For Telephone Number 00000000000 on Exchange HALFWAY
Your exchange has ADSL broadband.
Our initial test on your line indicates that you should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides 2Mbps, 1Mbps, 512Kbps or 256Kbps download speed.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the speed of service you wish to purchase.
Thank you for your interest.:T It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. :T"A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist."

i would always use bt's checker - as that should be picture perfect - not sure why you got that result when you checked via them, my number works fine
yes, it is slighly dearer without the phone - £2 a month, or in other words - you save £2 a month off their standard price if you take their phone
they do have the info via the members control panel currently (which is where I got it from) - but it did open up to a seperate page, which I have not yet seen advertised on their site, this has the phone stuff on it - http://www.zazizam.com/freetalk/ - you even get free calls, which isn't bad either
send them a nice email asking for more information, in my experience they do tend to reply quickly - which is helpful.... would be nice if they had one of those 'live chat' with an operator things - anyhow.... hope this helps you further0 -
If you do want to go with Tiscali (which you might not, having read the other responses!) please do verify with Tiscali that they can indeed accept a MAC code!
Until recently, they could NOT do anything with a MAC code (there are techie reasons for this that I don't begin to comprehend but it's basically to do with different providers using different, incompatible, ADSL technology), and I have not seen any announcement that they now can. Mind you, they may well have forgotten to make this public......
The other side of the "MAC coin" is that if you want to leave Tiscali (after your 12 month contract expires) and they still don't do MAC codes, you are stuck with them - or you will be left without an ADSL connection for 4-6 weeks, which is how long a switch without MAC can take.0 -
just to let you know - looks like zazizam have just launched their 2mb package for £12 a month0

I used Tiscali for dial up when the internet was young and learning, not a great experience, can't help thinking out of frying pan into fire sorry....Hope you get sorted.0
