TBH, when I told people he'd had a breakdown, those that knew him were always surprised because he was 'always so happy and smiling'.

Well yes, that was just the face they saw, when he was able to wear it, which for the first part of the illness was hardly ever.

Yes, I can relate to that - I think the 'public face' is one of the last things to go for many of us.

    hi,

I doubt its unfair anything ... I was there about 7 weeks.

If I go to the Dr's and ask for a Dr's note they just give me a bit of paper stating Depression ... Ongoing ... Will this suffice?

    Jen

I was dismissed from a company I worked for , I was there for 5 weeks, if you work for a company either temp or permanent for over 4 weeks you can claim a weeks notice pay plus 50% , I did , successfully.

Can we get back to helping the OP please?

If people want to discuss the merits of whether somebody is depressed or not, then please start a thread away from the Benefits board, and go and do some research first (because several of the above comments are blatantly wrong). Here would be an excellent starting point for getting accurate information, as opposed to hearsay. Alternatively, leave it to those qualified to advise on such a subject.

    hi,

I really need some advice ... I was dismissed from my job today in a call centre due to ill health. I was off work all last week with anxiety and depression related illness/symptoms. I am glad to be honest as the job was sooo stressful, im sure it caused a lot of the problem.

I have already completed a form to apply for housing benefit and am looking to put a claim in tommorrow for JSA. Is there anything else I should be claiming?

What should I tell them when they say why did I become unemployed?? if I say due to ill health will they try and push me into claiming incapacity which I am fairly sure I wont get on the basis of their scoring system...

    Thanks for any advice,

    Jen

    Hi Jen,

In my experience the Jobcentre will ask whether it was that particular job (or that type of work) that was making you unwell, or whether all work is likely to make you unwell. If you still want to find work, and can demonstrate that you are, you will be able to sign on for JSA.

If you do wish to claim Incapacity but will not qualify due to lack of NI Contributions, you will be able to claim Income Support for reason of Incapacity (assuming you have no other income).

When are your exams? If this year, is it the best time to be looking for work?

If you need anything else (without people that don't even know you questionning if you are fit for work or not!) feel free to PM me x

I am not going into it on this thread. It has nothing to do with what the OP asked. Please let's just focus on helping the OP.

I do hope you are not referring to my posts here, because I can assure you everything I have said is fact! And where it may be personal to me, I have said so.

OP - you really need to get some decent advice about your situation as you are not getting the answers you want from here. You are clearly stuck in some rut and do not want to get out of it just yet, so please get yourself some decent support.

You have said counselling isn't right for you, work isn't right for you, your friends aren't right for you, your family isn't right for you, your housing situation isn't right for you, and studying isn't right for you. In fact, nobody is giving you what you feel you need.

Problem is, no one on here can either.

Please don't waste time drifting from post to post, asking until someone gives you the answers you want. Take some decisive action and start making some changes in your life. Start one step at a time and start dealing with all these issues that are getting you down - prioritise and deal with one thing at a time.

You need an income, so go along to JCP, and/or the CAB and actually speak to people who can and will help you sort out what you can claim. Then, when you have sorted that worry, you can move on to the next one.

As much as I hate to say this, as the OP isn't a typical time waster and is struggling imo, I don't think she actually wants any constructive advice at this time.

Or she may want it, but she is not ready to actually act on it. Sorry if that seems harsh, Jen - it's the conclusion I have come to by reading your posts.

I was suggesting constructively helping, not ranting at them bestpud?

Please, if you don't have anything nice to say (this board is about helping people), then don't say anything at all!

    I wasn't ranting at all.

I have offered constructive words to Jen before and watched many others do the same!

Sometimes, when somone is clearly in a cycle of misery and perceived helplessness, it is better to point the realities out, don't you think?

There are plenty of actions the OP can take but for some reason, she is resistant to taking them. It is not helpful to feed into that kind of thinking. Sure, we all do it to start with, but if it isn't working, I care enough to try a different route, personally.
