    lol

frozen mash I recon works out cheaper

its about 50p for a bag serves two easily and your not paying for peel, and boiling the water to cook them in etc

just put in a bowl in the mike with a dash of milk and its lovely  its actual mash  I dont like smash or the instant mash    thats why I said frozen

mind you  smash make lovely fish cakes

    tin of tuna

    pct of instant mash

    small onion

    egg

salt and pepper  and dried parsley if youve got it
makes about 8 good sized fish cakes

where do you buy your frozen mash cathy?
    cheapest I've found is 79p
I agree it tastes much better than instant
but what you save on boiling water you spend on using microwave and milk

they cover the northwest, as far across as bolton i think, so with you being in sheffield, i don't think you will have one. (sorry, only just read your other post as to where you are on the just a thought thread)

How about this i found it on a website earlier today and i am going to try it out. I havent worked out costs yet but it should be very near the £1 mark.

    Two Pot Risotto

    Boil rice in saucepan.

In another saucepan fry off bacon, onions, mushrooms, sweetcorn and any other vegetables you have lurking in your freezer in a little oil. Add pepper, dried herbs, and a chicken stock cube. Drain rice. When cooked add all ingredients together and serve.

Why is everybody doing the frozen mash thing and avoiding potato peel?

Potato peel is great to do deep fried potato chips (or baked for healthier people.

Basically you cut the potatoes in quarters lenghtwise, scoop the inside as much as you can and then use the inside for mash, soup or whatever. The remaining scooped up skin can be either deep fried or brushed with oil/marg/butter and baked, then filled with anything nice and cheap.

Could fill it with salsa made with chopped tomato, onion, pinch of herbs, salt and a finely chopped chili, then topped with a bit of grated cheese (still that cheap cooking cheddar or edam from the discount store of course).

Today I made a lovely dish of steamed cabbage and carrots, put them in a baking dish, dressed them with a few bits of butter and covered them with grated cheese, then baked for a few minutes. The kids LOVED it - and it is amazing, as usually I cannot manage to make them eat cabbage!

This is not a meal for a pound but didn't know where else to put it no doubt all you experts will blow me out of the water but............

I just ate a nice and quick and cheap meal

Cook enough rice for one frozen is quick

One small tin Tesco chicken in white sauce heat in microwave with 1 or2 teaspoons curry powder

Chop an onion and a garlic clove and fry them in some oil and butter not too much, slice a tomato and add to the pan, mix with the chicken curry and serve.

Then I had a couple of savoury biscuits from a selection box topped with jam and Philadelphia cheese, then a cup of Aldi’s rich and smooth coffee (instead of Kenco Costa Rican) with some mint chocs from aldi’s BEGRAVIA mint chocolate selection box.

I am practising saving money and I used to be very brand loyal.
My first bogof was not a success two bottles of Charm dishwashing liquid, it’s the worst one I’ve ever used.
