  • You are referring to the Value Call Service.
1.Line Rental from £8(Sim Card Only) up to £26.The line rental you will pay depends on the mobile you take. The longer the contract the lower the line rental.
    2. NO INCLUSIVE MINUTES are included in any contract. So a sim card would cost you £96 pound a year before you started.
3.If you take out a mobile you must join the Utility Warehouse Club. This costs £1.50 a month, plus vat.
4.They dont support mms,or gprs yet.
5.Min call charge 5.9 inc vat.
6.Porting you can port your number to them but they charge if you want to take it to another network.
7.Intl Roaming. It does support it.But you must have paid your first bill and then they want a deposit if you havent been a customer for 6 months.

I personally would give this one a miss.Especially as you have to pay them approx £134 (Rental £96 +£18 membership + vat) a year for just a sim card.
For this sort of money you could get a O2 online sim card.Get 300 texts,or 100 inclusive minutes for £10 a month, and still have your £10 to spend as well.

  • One of there agents gave me info on it recently, and she provided me with that info, when i asked her in depth questions about it.If you look at there T&C,Telephone/Mobile page 3(c), they do say they may ask for a deposit. You can access the t&c from the website.
They also suggest they might not let you make outgoing intl calls or premium calls without a deposit.

Are you by any chance an agent of theres? :D

lol no or i would know about the INT roaming! no im real intrested for a mate whom lives abroad but is sick of getting a new payg sim everytime UK brit 1 expires, seems this would be an easy option for them and also cheap calls when they come home via contract and permanant number people could text him on as its a UK number and recieving texts costs nothin! can you remember much about the info they gave you?

  • He has to be resident in the UK to get this service.Even if he were to qualify he still pays £9.50p a month when he does not use it.

Would he not be better off with a Virgin Sim Card.Although they are supposed to expire after 180 days if not used they dont enforce this.

All networks (as far as i'm aware) operate a 180 days period before cutting you off although there is some confusion about o2 Online PAYG (the 300text ones) as their t&c booklet states 180 days (6months) but the leaflet state 3months.

Anyhow, is not just easier to make one quick call every 6months?
  • I only picked the Virgin Sim card cos they dont appear to enforce the 180 day limit .This was discussed on this site before i cannot find the thread at the mo.As bbb-uk points out one call to the number every 6 months will keep it active,on the majority of networks.

I think the £9.50 a month would compensate the amount spent on payg calls when my mate comes home for a visit, naturally they want to catch up with everyone and it costs them a few hundred £ on pay u go to do this with X net calls.

Low line rental, cheap roaming texts and cheap x net calls in the UK on either T-mob or Voda is what they require (the other three networks dont have roaming agreements in the country they are in)

Anyone point me in the direction of a better deal on Voda?

I emailed and the guy from Utility is going to forward roaming charges to me on Monday so i will post them for everyone for future reference :)

  • How about this new £7.50 a month sim card only offer from T-Mob at least you get some x network minutes for your money, and you are not tied down for 12 months.

That works out 15p an minute, same as a "fresh" pay as you go sim , + texts are probably cheaper on fresh (5p)
