Has anyone ever taken their car on the Eurotunnel?

In reality, do they really ask to see your V5 (or VE103 if driving a hire car)? Has anyone any experience of this? You will need your full driving licence documentation. The original Vehicle Registration Document (V5), if the vehicle you are driving is borrowed, hired or leased, it is vital that you carry a Vehicle on Hire Certificate (VE103).

It's not just for driving in this country. You'll need the V5 abroad.0

Eurotunnel are just telling you that you what you need to stay legal in France and the rest of Europe. The Gendarmes see British motorists near the ports as cashcows and any misdemeanor will see them extracting documents and Euros from you.
To be legal you do need your licence and counterpart, certificate of insurance and V5C. If the car is a hire car you need VE103 and if it's a company car or someone elses car then you should carry a letter stating that you are allowed to drive it and take it abroad.
99% of the time you'll never need it but the other 1% of the time you'll wish you had brought it.The man without a signature.0 -
We didn't show anything last time, you put your card in the reader and drive onto the train. But it's mandatory to carry them in France, including your passport if your licence isn't a photocard0

Used the tunnel lots of times and never ever been asked for any proof of vehicle ownership. Even gone to the expense of getting the required paperwork to take a company car over. Again, never been asked for it, just a case of better safe than sorry.

Same here we've used the tunnel loads of times and we've never been asked to show any documents like what the OP suggested,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I've never bothered with those documents, Eurotunnel don't ask for anything like that.0

Me either, never been asked for anything like that.
I always remember to take my insurance but have never carried V5, I will now though.
P.S. Whilst I like the ferry (full breakfast sunny trip on the deck) the tunnel is great for the sheer speed of rolling on and rolling off.My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0 -

I have never been asked for these documents by the ferry company (including Eurotunnel).
However I have on rare occasions been asked for them by overseas policemen and customs officials.0
