I have two breadmakers at the moment a panny and a swan and contrary to what everyone says here I prefer the swan to the panny:eek: Before both of these I had a breville which was great too.I personally do think you get what you pay for with a BM as the panny and the swan cost nearly £100 each and the Breville before them was about the same. The cheaper BM's do have their fan clubs but also have more problems associated with them too.So I'd try the freecycle route first to find out if indeed homemade bread is for you and then if you like it save up and buy a decent one as they really are a worthwhile investment

Look out in the 2nd hand ads and on freecycle - breadmakers take up loads of space and most people don't use them as often as they think they will so end up selling them or giving them away.

Get a Panasonic. The bread is better, it improves your love life and makes you thinner.*

I bought a secondhand Panny SD-206. It's about 5 years old and makes perfect bread. It cost around £25 from www.adtrader.co.uk I also found an Argos outlet store locally which had any panny for £35-50. Mostly just damaged packing boxes but some had been used.

I have not bought bread in the last couple of months and have save much more than the £100 for a new machine simply because I never get get caught nipping to the supermarket for bread and milk. When was the last time you left a supermarket not spending £15+ when you only wanted a ouple of bits.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

Personally I feel that you get what you pay for and of course there are always going to be comments good and bad about every machine but you only need to search for the Panasonic on this site and you will see loads of satisfied customers :D

I paid £25 (usually £40) for the Tesco BM - bad buy! Disaster every time. Paid for the Panasonic SD254 (£80) and love it. Like AndyHamilton said - haven't bought shop bought bread since.

You can always get the older model?

There are lots of Panasonics on ebay:

This is identical to mine http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Panasonic-SD-206-Bread-Maker_W0QQitemZ250244334173QQihZ015QQcategoryZ20669QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I bet it does not go above £50 incl postage.
It looks almost brand new and don't worry about a missing spoon, you don't need them.
I have my bread maker in the corner of my room next to my french doors as it is way too big to sit on my bench all the time (as all would be).
