.......... I looked at the thread because I run two holiday companies that could make use of such an item. HOWEVER, because it's not future-proofed (it being 4:3 aspect), buying these for my businesses would not be an entirely sensible move.

Whether it makes financial sense depends on the difference in cost of buying 2 future proof TVs and when in the future you need these future proof sets.

If you use these TVs for 2 years until you need upgraded technology they have cost you £130 per year per TV.

If you spend £400 on two future proof TVs and you get 4 years out of them (the rate at which technology improves on average) they cost you £100 per year - a saving of £30. If however the more expensive models do not last 4 years but say only 3 years then cost is approx. the same £133 per year. If they only last 2 years then of course they work out more expensive.

A Grabbit thread is highlighting offers that are a great price for the product on offer. In this instance you cannot get this TV for much under £200 so it's a 35% reduction on normal selling price. The reduced selling price is comprable to a similar spec set, but a less known make.

Most posters are happy for someone to point out a better deal on a grabbit - but you haven't done this, you've just stated it's not a great deal. Well if it's not a great deal can you find us one that is please?

For goodness sake, am I not entitled to post a contrasting opinion on something? I haven't made any comment on the OP nor any other poster. One man's meat is another man's poison. I've conceded that it's a fine deal as far as it goes, what more do you want?

If you're all so touchy about what anyone else feels about your grabbits, then it's probably wise to have stopped posting them as you appear not to be able to deal with it. Just accept that you may not have found the best deal and move on - perhaps even thank the poster who says "for a few groats more, you can have this better one" rather than bollocking him for cramping your style.

Are these forums designed to give power back to the consumer or are they merely here to massage egos?

You may find it surprising taking into consideration my earlier posting, which was meant to be tongue in cheek, that I do see your point of view. It looks as though the smallest TV's are going to be 20" widescreens, which height wise is probably the same as this one, but a few inches wider. "odd Fellow" is correct in saying that the future is widescreen - in fact the present is widescreen - if you've got this television set to 16:9 (widescreen) you get a seriously small picture - fortunately I found the 4:3 button and filled the screen, albeit with missing sides. What we must remember is that these sets are used as second or third sets, not main ones. They are often placed in kitchens, spare rooms, bedrooms conservatories etc. When you compare them to the competition on sale - Red £149.99 and Goodmans £179.99 they are a bargain. Also despite the previous postings, they do have a PC input and can be used as a PC monitor, with TV displayed in a Picture in Picture format or just sound, which makes them ideal for kids bedrooms or student accommodation. They also fit into spaces where widescreens can't and as it looks as though you may not be able to buy 15" ones soon they are ideal if you need a small set. So in summary you are both right - lets not take things too serious and chill - thank you to Poppy for pointing out this great buy (if you need it) and to Odd fellow for highlighting it's possible deficiencies - that way buyers can be informed.

I don't need you to tell me how to equate the cost of any given asset, thanks.

Will you please desist from trying to make this into a playground competition "My dad's TV is better than your dad's."

Just be thankful that your new bargain TV can receive CBBC, allbeit missing the edges....

Or maybe with a bit of black at the bottom and the top, and the whole transmitted children's picture you recommend? :rolleyes2

Does it really matter? Older but not obsolescent, as are the analogue TVs on offer for a greater outlay .
This is £100 less than a wide-screen dvb Sony.

I have never made a childish competition of it. You didn't like your post being picked up by others as pointless as you didn't provide a better alternative within a similar price bracket and made out I and other MSEs who liked the deal was "some poor sod".

Now who is being childish here:confused: . I am an adult and gave up children's TV and behaviour many years ago. You are obviously an expert on children's programmes though!

Not sure if I have ever seen a 15" widescreen LCD TV, for some a 17" or 19" may be too large for the place they want to locate it - as is the case where I have my 15" 4:3 LCD TV, which I incidently don't use with my PC. Good deal if you want one this spec.

Now can we place the handbags back where they belong end the !!!!!ing and get back to moneysaving.

Nope, genuine question. If you are saying that this one is not good value, then show us what we can get for the same price that is better.

    Sounds like Moneysaving to me!
