i know its against e-bay rules(when has e-bay ever cared about rules just about profits).but i dont see the problem about paypal fees being added,as long as this is very clearly stated in the auction and there are other payment options.the buyer then has the choice.nobody is being conned everything is plain to see, completley up to the buyer.it costs me around £11 for each item i sell in paypal fees, sure i could bump up the p&p but surely its better to do postage at cost then those choosing to pay by cheque etc dont pay the extra.

between myself and a friend over the last 2 months we have reported this seller a total of 9 times for adding 4% for using paypal

and yet he is still putting up new auctions with paypal charges on.
cant imagine why anyone would want to buy these though.

  • Personally I don't surcharge for PayPal payments but look at it this way. Who pays for the stamp & envelope to post a cheque, or the fee for buying a postal order ? Answer; the buyer. Hence people may argue it should only be the same for PayPal
The surcharge of 3.4% + 20p hits you more when you sell low priced items for £1 etc. as the fee would be 21p (over 1/5 of the item price  :o)
Recently a buyer paid me by PayPal and after receiving the item which I sent by Recorded Delivery he moaned that the postage charge was too high, but didn't he just agree to the postage charge when bidding ? Yes, and it was very resonable compared to some others too
Anyway back to the point a few days later the buyer filed a non-receipt claim with PayPal, I provided the tracking number and after a few weeks of their investigation they refunded the buyer  :o I have emailed them, provided tracking info etc. on several occassions and appealed their decision all to no avail, I'm now over £50 out of pocket and I have proof that the buyer received the item  >:(
PayPal is a rotten company, and a lot of ebay users know that but yet we have to live with the fact because of the way eBay promotes its company
I would stop accepting PayPal forever but I would lose sales as the majority of ebay users now use PayPal, Probably for the buyer protection. Note that if you buy something with PayPal and do not receive the item, you won't get a penny back if the seller has no money in his account (and a scammer isn't going to leave money in their now is he !!!)  >:(
I could go on forever but read http://www.paypalsucks.com and you will be shocked

  • Paypal is ****, I lost £80 after buying somthing through ebay using pay pal, I didn't receive what I ordered and I carried out a charge back and obviously he had cleared the funds in his paypal account so I couldn't get my money back. Paypal were no help, Ebay were no help and don't provide a telephone number to seek help, (most likely because they will have their lines jammed with people that have been victims of fraud) Surely there is a huge gap in the market for a secure online money transfer service... paypal is a joke. And ebay are getting more and more money so they dont give a damn about individuals like me getting ripped off. So they are more than happy for their relationship with paypal to continue. I cannot wait until a service is launched where you can purchase things safely without risk of fraud through ebay other than paypal, and will love to see the day paypal goes down. Like everything in life - you learn from your mistakes >:(

  • e-bay have no relationship with paypal they own it.btw i sell on e-bay and i clear my paypal account, not because i rip people off (100% positive rating) but because buyers have been known to receive there goods then do a cashback so they got the goods and there money back,so it works both ways.i agree with u paypal has lots of faults but if u dont offer it you lose a lot of sales.

Ebay and PayPal DO share information.

You are right about the buyers who claim non-receipt after they get the goods, pure fraud
It is genuine sellers that are victims as most will have money lying about in their paypal account which is easily 'stolen' by fraudulent buyers
However genuine buyers suffer as when they file non-receipt claims the fraudulent sellers have cleared out their accounts

PayPal is a no-win company for genuine people and an easy scam for the fraudsters, it sucks !!!

  • Paypal is a necessary evil. I try to avoid my buyers using Paypal and would prefer a cheque or even better good old postal order. I any case I always add a lttle extra to my postage charges which covers the extortionate Paypal fee. Luckily to date I have not had any issues with Paypal, although am now getting fed up of all the spoof emails!

For those of you like me who are becoming sick of paying high seller charges on Paypal, one option may be to offer Natwest Fastpay on listings??
