Hi, thanks that sounds good. Do you work in this field?

I live in OX9 - its near oxford, obviously ;)

All i want it to be able to drive the damn thing, if not i got to get rid of it, and no one will take it im sure!

AND i dont get the thing about some !!!!!! in a nicked car with my details?

I have the car and number plates etc... how can he be using it?! or do you mean someones put my plate on there car ? i dunno!

Heh heh...almost. I work in the field next door. ;)

The main office in your area is in Southampton, but they have a local office in Bicester:

    VOSA
    RTE Division
    Bicester GVTS
    Launton Road
    Bicester
    Oxon
    OX26 0JG
    01869 243416

Give them a shout, and explain that you need a vehicle identity check. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Having said that, I'm not sure how you're going to get it there with no insurance....
They should be able to help if you explain the situation.

Your details may have been cloned at some point, meaning that someone may have a stolen car which has your details instead of the original, so it appears legit.

    Regards,

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

hi, thanks. I do have that number actually! but there booking in november :(

I can get it insured on my other cars policy as a tempory replacement vechile, but it has no tax ;) ah!

Wow, didn't realise there was that sort of wait. Probably all tied up sorting out the MOT computerisation.

You won't need a log book to tax it, just the MOT and the insurance isn't it?

  • Why don't you get the car inspected, cleared by DVLA.
    Register it in your name.
Then you can insure it with no problem.
No insurance company will cover you unless you own the car- all to do with 'insurable interest'
Don't think there are any short cuts here.

This is not correct. See previous posts. You do not have to own the car to take out insurance on it. Some insurance companies may not insure you in this instance, but some will.

  • I beg to differ

I think i mentioned it, but it will take a few month by the time its all sorted, time i dont have.

I got the car free, but if i have to spend £200 + getting it road legal (it needs a MOT on october 23rd!) then its not worth it, i will sell it and get a car for £500 that is perfectially legal and has tax and a MOT for a year.

This was ment to be a cheap way out.

You need to produce "log book" documents when you apply for tax as well as insurance.

You should be getting it checked properly as suggested.

I have the new keeps supliement which you can get tax with, i have done this in the past.

I will be getting the car checked out, would just like to drive it up to that date, to get rid of my current car costing me over £250 a month.

Apparently first alternative insure you, if the cars registered to a relitive, my brother is insured on my other brothers car, dont know if this will work for a aunty, will call at lunch!

By all means do so. It won't make you right. You don't have to own a vehicle to insure it.

You are right - you can insure a vehicle that is not in your name - my sister works for a major insurer.

I know because she has a policy on brother's car as does he (the car is insured twice) so that if she crashes it does not affect his no-claims bonus and vice-versa. Expensive, I know, but useful for a short period of time.
