Thanks for looking...
I am no computer whizz and as such have followed advise on here and other forums but not getting anywhere so here is my specific problem.
First prob ocurred a few months back but as i dont use it much if at all i sort of put it on the back burner..
D Drive. DVD rewriter.
Every time i place a disk into it the computer shuts down and re starts??
More recently..
E Drive. ROM disc drive.
Wont open on any request process.
Start up takes a few (long) minutes now... this seems to have occurred since a windows update?
SD card reader. Some pics are not read. Cant view them at all?? If i plug the card into my lappy its fine??
I have no idea if these problems are linked but would welcome any advice from you tachie's please.
I have run through the anti spyware and Malware process as detailed in this forum and it did find a few things but i have not noticed any change to the pc since fixing them.
.
Ta very much.

It sounds like Windows is crashing when you insert the disk and is currently set to restart on crash. YTou can disable this behaviour in the Control Panel/System/Advanced/Startup & Recovery and uncheck "Automatically Restart". This will mean that you will see the bluescreen message which might help shed some light on the problem.
2nd thing to do is boot into Safe Mode (F8 when screen goes black at start of boot) and uninstall ANY cd or dvd writing programs you may have installed (Nero,Roxio etc).
If this solves the problem (after a reboot into normal mode) then you know one of those is causing the crash. It is more than likely the problem is caused by INCD (horrible program) and removing that should fix it and may well fix your DVD ROM drive problem as well as it is possibly attempting to scan any "removalbe" dive, may even fix your SD problem if it has got that confused
If you have any problems please dont hesitate to pm0 -

Like mr benn says we need an error code to help figure this most likely software/driver type issues.More recently..

Could be the drive has failed or the power cable has come loose (unlikely) have you right clicked on the CD drive letter in my computer and clicked open? does it have a small light on the front some CD drives do and this lights up for a short time during boot. There is also a small hole on most CD drives where you can push something like a paper clip into this is a release mechanism so you can open the drive maybe its jammed, try opening it.I have run through the anti spyware and Malware process as detailed in this forum and it did find a few things but i have not noticed any change to the pc since fixing them.

Have you run up to date virus scans? just to rule it out. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
does the e: drive open on pressing the front button, a faulty drive will cause many random issues, if its in the middle of the cable simply disconnect it inside box, if its on end move taht cable point to other drive and correct the master/slave jumper
clean out your cpu heatsink whilst in thereclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
Thanks all.
To answer some of the questions.
I have tried openeing the e drive by all methods mentioned and all that happens is the light on the front comes on and you can hear what i think is the drive pulse after a few seconds. The paper clip release seems just to be a push button behind it not a mechanical release.
Mbarber.. sorry not a clue what you mean
Off to try the safe boot and delete nero option now.... fingers crossed!I save so I can spend.0 -
Well i took the Mr Benn route first....
And it has resolved the DVD Rom problem...... I only removed one programme which was a dvd copy programme i had not used for years! Wont miss that then! Since then ... finger crossed... no prob.
E drive will still not open tho.... :mad:I save so I can spend.0 -

Make sure theres no viruses and spyware ( you will be surprised what the anti spyware will find if you have never ran it before) http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=133269Okay.... i tried the paperclip again an i was not being brutal enough previously... it opened no prob... and for the time being anyway.. its opening on request.

Clean out all your temporary internet files and remove unused programs.
Control panel>add and remove
and then after doing all that defrag your computer i would reccomend this software http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download but you can use the Microsoft one if you like Accessories> system tools> disk defragmenter.0 -
I did the spyware / malware removal as per the instructions on here.
Will try the defrag but to be honest i have done it before and it didnt help much.
as for removing programmes.. some of them .. i have no idea what they are and do not want to !!!!!! things up so am a bit wary there.I save so I can spend.0 -
