Assuming this isn't a wind-up, please don't do it. The very fact that you're asking for advice online means that you don't have a clue about what's involved. What will you do when you don't manage to sell or give away all of the pups?

Have they both been health tested? For chi you need certificates for heart, eyes and luxating patella. What are their breed credentials? i.e. how many shows have they won? How good are their pedigrees?

If they aren't health tested and they aren't show quality, then you won't get much more than you'd get for a mutt, if you can sell them at all. Most people won't touch a chi without health tests, because they are prone to hereditary problems. You might get £500 if you can find someone daft enough to pay it, more likely £250, if the pup is healthy enough to sell (and isn't born with it's organs outside the body, or full size organs inside the body, or with missing or deformed legs, or any of the other birth defects seen in badly bred chi).

Litter size, probably 1 for a first litter, maybe 2, 3 absolute max, and unlikely.

At her size she will almost certainly need a c-section which will probably be in the region of £300, assuming it is in the daytime, if it's an emergency and/or out of hours you can add a couple of hundred to that at least. You will need to arrange for your vet to be on call 24/7 in the run up to her whelping date, your vet will probably charge extra for that if they don't usually have a 24 hr surgery.

This all assumes that you are knowledgeble enough about breeding to recognise the signs when she starts labour, and can get her to the vet fast enough. If you don't she will most likely die giving birth. It's rare for a small chi to be able to give birth naturally.

If she survives, you need to factor in the costs of the vet care for your dam, additional food for the dam, food for the pup, buying/building a whelping box, milk subsitute, vet care for the pup including vaccinations and worming.

How much will they be worth? LESS THAN THEY COST YOU! You're not a recognised breeder, sounds like you don't have her pedigree papers and the boy dog doesn't either! That means people looking for a pedigree will take one look and walk away.
Pboae is absolutely right... Chi's tend to have small litters and that is another reason that pedigree chi's are very expensive - They cost a fortune to breed well.
If you are asking these type of questions on a moneysaving forum then you are obviously NOT experienced enough to be breeding. Take the dog to the vet and get them to check her to see if she is pregnant and hope she isn't! If she's not pregnant then have her spayed!

We breed chihuahuas and I cannot believe that you would even consider breeding from your dog if you do not have a clue about what you are doing. The death rate for chihuahua pups is very very high. Thankfully we have never lost one but even the most experienced breeder will at some stage lose pups or the mother or both. If all you are thinking about is how much you can sell them for, I pity any person who would buy one off you. Please do not put your dogs life at risk for the sake of a few quid. Any experienced breeder will tell you that the cost of birth, raising pups to 12 weeks, injections, vet checks and caring for a welping mother far out weighs the amount you sell them for. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DO IT.

The OP doesn't even state that the other dog is a chihuahua, just that it is the same size. For them to think that they are going to make money out of crossbred puppies without having a clue what they are doing is scary! I hope the little chi isn't pregnant and the OP gets her "done" ASAP.

sorry OP if its not true

but this sounds like an oversea's scam artist doing their homework

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions, but chi's are the prime dog do be scammed on.

I looked on viva street to look for advertsied chi's and one scammer had set up a website, a non-trackable mobile number (i didn't call it) and a yahoo email address.

They had advertised it in the London area so when people asked to view, they said they where located in cornwall, I asked to view the puppies and they asked to send a deposit as the puppies already have prospect buyers and would be gone before I got a chance to see them.

They must think us as stupid, or even worst, people actually are

I agree tine, but just in case it's not...

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough before. Chihuahua are an extremely difficult breed to whelp safely. You clearly have no idea about what it entails. If you breed from her she will most likely die during the birth. The chances of you producing any viable pups like this is negligible. Get her spayed.

  • okay i will do. but i am still confused on why she is bleeding again because to me this doesnt seem normal....... and dont worry i am not a fake and its my father that wants the pups becuase i dont know much and i always want to be safe because i have heard that they could die giving brith. i tried to do some research but i didnt get much info.
