Im not sure what you can make but -

I once saw a really nice valentines card make about 10 pounds nearly - was really nice.

You could make cards, party bag things. Look on ebay, see what sells best & for how much.

Why not join and sell on etsy instead? Much cheaper to list, friendly forums and the management are much less b******y than Ebay. (I just made an adjective out of b******! Go me!) I've only sold a very few items, but then I've put very little effort in: the way Ebay is going that will probably change. (I sold two items for twelve quid each to U.S. sellers though which I was pleased with, and considering the exchange rate they must have really liked them).

As to what to make I would say look around, and see what materials/equipment you have access to either free or cheap. Let that determine your crafty output. E.g. if you have a ton of pebbles in your garden, buy a tumbler (I think Lortone are the cheapest and quietest) and some bails ( the findings you glue on to make a pendant), and stick the nice shiny pendants on a chain perhaps with a painted design. Walla!

Or if hubby has a job selling office materials and can get cheap paper and printer ink, get into digital art and sell pictures... Just examples.

Depends how creative you are, but I would avoid anything that is already done to death (will get paid a pittance per hour for your efforts) or are a minefield of regulations (foodstuffs, cosmetics, personal products). Stuff that's a bit more rare can do really well.

I've noticed the following before and stored them in the 'rainy day' mental bank (but have no plans to do them so don't mind sharing lol!)

    - Vintage eiderdowns, either re-made or just cleaned up and made good (sell for £80 - £150 amazingly). Folk were throwing them away when everyone was going over to duvets, how times change!

    - Customised clothing e.g. basic t-shirts with hand painting, applique, stencilling, embellishments etc. Gothic clothing always seems to do really well and looks fun to make as you can be totally outrageous with it. People are still prepared to pay for a one off design.

    - Vintage style 1950's aprons (really, search completed items for these!!), especially in the country casual / shabby shic / naive shaker / retro designs. Either made up in fabric remnants or cheap polycottons, or even better original vintage ones from a boot sale. Lots of modern women apparently want to dress up as domestic dollies, but whatever the reason I'd still be happy to take their cash :-)

    - Re-made or customised costume jewellery. I wouldn't touch jewellery making from scratch as there's far too much of it around and the margins are too low, but if you can get the basic product for next to nothing (charity shops, bargain bins, car boots, jumble sales) you can do a lot with the components and turn them into good money. £5 for a pair of jewellery pliers and some lucky finds will get you on your way.

    - Hand painted tinware, refurbished old wooden trays, even small pieces of furniture can still do really well. Pick up any 'country crafts' type book and look at the props in the photo settings rather than the item being shown .... little lace pillows, pretty jugs, placemats, tab top curtains - those are the things folk seem prepared to pay for, especially if you create a themed range that's desirable and easy to post.

    - As someone said above, those 'granny squares' in crochet, made up into blankets and throws do well. If you're on a real budget, reclaim the wool from old hand knits or charity shop bargains. When I was a child, we were made to unravel outgrown sweaters so they could be knitted up into something else and it was quite therapeutic and satisfying.

Perhaps that's why my hubby now calls me 'the womble', as I see a use for everything lol!!

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
