Does anyone feel scared of eBay?

I've been a member of eBay for two/three years now and have recently been made a 'eBay star' (Whatever that is). I used to use eBay a lot and have near 200 feedback, however I stopped using the site for about 6 months and now I've started again, but feel I'm a lot more worried about selling on eBay.

I've just put a laptop on their for sale for £500. I'm very worried about selling such an expensive item via PayPal and posting the item. I know there is sellers protection etc, but I still feel very unsafe selling on eBay.

Does anyone else feel like this?.

I'm exactly the same. I have 1 more transaction to complete and then apart from buying on there, i'm finished with selling.

Its too risky, too many dodgy people out there (my apologies to the decent buyers) paypal is biased and ebay have no idea whats going on.

Its a shame as ebay used to be a super fun place for selling

Yes, me to. I am selling personal stuff at the moment and someone asked me if I would send standard parcels rather than one that needs a signature and I had to say no incase the item went 'missing' or was 'damaged'. To be honest, a few years back it probably would not of even crossed my mind. Now all you are worried about is whether someone is going to scam you.

I know there are scammers, but they aren't that common. Admittedly I don't sell in high risk areas (phones, ipods, laptops, etc), but my average transactions are over £20 each and in over 20,000 transactions I have had less than a handful of scams. Forums like this highlight them obviously, but follow the guidelines and it isn't such a big problem.

yeah, i'm more scared of ebay the company than anyone on there. in the last couple months they've stopped access to my paypal account for a week and forced me to add bank funding before being able to use any of the money, decided to hold back all other payments for 21 days, created a feedback system where i can't fail to look bad, forced me to accept payment methods i don't want to, pulled numerous legit listings, spammed 200 of my buyers and sellers incorrectly informing them my account had been hijacked and was no longer under my control, and also seen my account actually hijacked for a few hours (completely seperate to the afformentioned eronous email). at least i made £200 in the process :p

I am regular E-Bayer, (over a 1000 feedback in 12 months). Its not what it was 12 months ago, people are just not buying anymore, too many people flogging the same stuff, cause they need the money too.

The fees now, don't make it sensible to start bidding at 99p anymore.

We have had no problems with ebay (dads account) I think hes been a member for 2 years but we have been buying/selling for just over a year. We had 1 problem with a petty seller, she was soo petty !! But as for your laptop - good luck selling, and i would offer pick up only with cash on collection.

    Good luck xx

The fees don't make it sensible to start at 99p if it sells for 99p! If you start at 99p and it sells for £30 then the total fees paid are less than starting something at £30 that sells for £30.

Do not use Paypal as payment for selling a laptop on Ebay.

    Ever.

I would go as far as saying do not use Paypal.

    Ever.

    Scammers paradise.

Not scared of it - just cannot be bothered with the hassle anymore. Amazon might cost more but at least you get paid (or if you are a buyer - a refund if something goes wrong).

I only buy stuff on eBay now - and then only for low value transactions like DVDs.
