Unnecessary paper statements

Hello everyone,
My dad has the alliance and leicester current account with internet banking so can see all statements online etc.
A+L still send him paper statements though and this is a service they charge him for. After phoning them he has been unable to cancel the paper bills.
This seems a bit ridiculous to me, kinda chharging for an irrelevant service.
Anything he can do?
Cheers guys,
Dave

I thought there was a regulation somewhere where customers had to receive paper statements every so often?
I'm tempted to get all my statements online.. much more secure I think and not much point having the paper one when I can look online.
However, I also think that paper statements are a good record and may come in handy in the future when you need to prove stuff.
Also, I am torn between the dilemma where if I don't receive a paper statement then I am only increasing the profit for the scum bank.. but I am chopping down an unnecessary tree.. !0 -

How did you set that up, is there an option or something on the online banking site?
Cheers,

But be careful if you don't get (and keep) paper statements
Statements and transactions histories only stay viewable on line for a specific time. If you suddenly decide, say, that you need a statement for 2 years ago, you'll probably find that it's too old to be viewed on screen and the bank will charge you £10 for a paper copy
This has happened to quite a few of my clients and it tends to get very expensive.
I would suggest that if you don't keep paper copies, you do keep screen-prints or pdf prints on your pc so you can still refer to them years later0 -
Thanks for the help everyone, I think I've found the problem - according to his statement he is receiving these weekly for which there is a £1.50 a month charge. That must be what it is, have got him to change it to monthly statements.

I had no choice but to change to paper free statements due to the fact that i was not getting them in the post. Not just bank statement but others too. e.g. i received a statement for simplyB processed in March at the end of June so who knows where that one had been lurking. If you go overdrawn they will always send out a letter to inform you even if you are paperless. I also print off my statement so I have a paper record as well as being able to acess it on line.0 -
I think it's just the bank acting "green" when it's really a cut back on a stamp!!Turning_into_scrooge wrote:I also print off my statement so I have a paper record as well as being able to acess it on line.Ben

Make sure you have a paper record of any interest you receive. For self-assessment income tax, you may be asked to prove that the figures you put on your tax return are correct. So even if you have internet banking with no paper statements, you might need to print some of them off, just to have a record for tax purposes.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
