Is Scottish Power duping me?

I'm just in the midst of changing from Scottish Power to NPower SOL10 tariff. There was very little difference in it, £2 per month less on direct debit with N Power but I would also get £30 cashback from Moneysupermarket.com. I got a call from Scottish Power the other day saying that they would offer me a direct debit of £40.39 per month if I came back to them and would fix it until March 2011. I was told the unit prices and asked them if the direct debit would cover the cost of my bills on my present usage or would I be left with a large amount owing to them at the end of the year. They assured me this would not be the case. Afterwards, I worked everything out myself, on my yearly usage, and found out that NPower worked out cheaper taking the £80 per year discount into account and that on Scottish Powers direct debit of £40.39 per month which they said they would cahrge me, I would owe them quite a lot at the end of the year, buy they did not tell me this. Am I now locked into going back with them and has anyone else experienced a call of this nature? Also, is it worth going back to Scottish Power because of the price fix. Sorry this is a bit long winded but I would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

Think Martin mentioned about this in one of the emails recently.
Many companies are trying to bluff people insto staying with them by saying they will match DD ammounts but fail to mention that their units are more expensive and you would therefore end up with a debt after 12 months.
Ignore DD ammount and compare on unit cost and consumption, find the cheapest and then work out DD from that point.

I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.:cool:0
