Which broadband with future free migration possibilities

Having been thinking about going broadband (BT phoneline) for ages and having done quite a lot of research I have more or less decided on plusnet plus because they seem to be good value for money with free set up. Can you keep their equipment when you decide to migrate at the end of the contract period? I was really keen on Waitrose because they have good cusomer support but unfortunately you have to pay for set up if you don't already have broadband. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Remeber that if you aren't techy each ISP only offers full support for their own modem Although a good one will try and help with others

When you join the isp IS CHARGED £47 BY bt

Some ISPs are very up front about charges eg F2S. The others get it back through monthly charges, some make it clear that they charge to recover costs if you leave early. Plusnet have a sliding scale £47 in the first year +£25 for the modem

Don't worry too much about it though I have NEVER met anyone who wanted to back to dial up!

According to your title, you want future free migration. With Plusnet, you have to pay to leave for up to 5 years. I think it starts at around £80 for the first year, and reduces about £11 each year for 5 years. (can't remember the exact figures)

  • I had to investigate the Waitrose connection query!

I've had a look at the Waitrose site and it says: "One fast and simple service, with free modem and free connection."

I too was concerned about the alleged Waitrose Broadband set up charge. Of course there isn't one.
  • Sorry I was referring to the speical Waitrose offer of three months free if you already have the broadband and the equipment. I was only wondering about getting stuck in a contract and then wanting to move to a better one.

I'd definitely go for Waitrose Broadband - I had dial-up with them - excellent service and no problems at all. Unfortunately they didn't offer BB when we changed, so we went with Tiscali  I'm now trying to get the energy/nerve to switch to Waitrose BB, but dread having to manage the problems that leaving Tiscali apparently always brings - want to avoid the down time caused by Tiscali not providing MAC codes  Just wish Waitrose had offered BB back then!
