Same here - my OH got rid of it for me and I'm now running avast! which updates properly and doesn't slow anything down.peter_the_piper wrote: »I gave up on Avg 8 as it slowed down our computers too much, ran like an amoebae on mogadon. Sounds like this is just another problem its got.
Avg8 is pants!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
:heart2: RIP Clio 1.9.93 - 7.4.10 :heart2:

I also went to Avast, fed up with the nag screen and cannot see why I should add more memory to my computer just to run avg8.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Version 8 Free is casusign problems. Look at the security forum on the compteractive mag website. Everything from failed installations to reale SLLLOOOOWWW downs of system. Updates will continue on version 7.5 (thanks to MSErs for that) until end of the year. Hopefully by then they will ahve solved install problems etc.
If version 7.5 was workings so well why did they have to mess around with it on the premise of beefing up its security0 -
Like many, I found AVG8 caused problems and slowed things. Like many, I'd upgraded thinking that virus updates were going to be discontinued for AV7.5. However.. a well-informed friend tells me that -
"Grisoft are being very disingenuous with their dire warnings of no
further updates to AVG 7.5, implying that it will not be recieving such
AV database updates when they actually mean there won't be any further
updates to the AV detection engine itself (something we could all have
surmised without that message due to the very existence of a version
that starts at 8 rather than 7.something)."
He's continuing to use 7.5 for the time being. I uninstalled 8 and eventually found a website with links for downloading various versions of AVG -
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/
I'm happily back on 7.5 and am whizzing along again.
The virus def updates might not last forever for 7.5 but might last a good long time. 0 -
We've switched to avast now too. The more we read about avg, the more we thought it wasn't worth the trouble. Shame as we've used them for several years now and it has all been fine except for a few, and easily resolved, update issues.0

Just thought I'd say that I upgraded to the new AVG 8 Free version and it's still doing it's job fine. My PC is a bit slower when the scan is taking place but I'd rather put up with that than pay for something like Norton which just goes crazy and blocks you from using the Internet (which is what previously happened to me).0
