AVG Free version 8 update problem

Please would someone help us out with this issue:

We have been using 7.5 with no problems but have installed the new version and it will not update!

The old one was fully uninstalled first and the computer rebooted. It is working fine - just won't update!

The firewall is set to accept it so that does't seem to be the problem anyway, but oh switched the firewall off, just to check, and it still wouldn't update.

It says 'Update failed. The connection with your server has failed.'

We have a wireless connection, through a Netgear DG834G.

Also, we installed Asquared ages ago, but that has never updated either. The old one used to but then they did an upgrade (or we just reinstalled it - not sure which now) and it would never connect again. That one says it cannot connect to the server and to check our internet connection or proxy settings.

Sooo, is it something to do with the router?

We have ashampoo, spybot, spyware blaster and ccleaner, all of which update fine, as did AVG 7.5.

Any ideas anyone?

I am having problems with version 7.5.524 updating, it just "freezes" on the "server, receive answer" part.

Do you use sygate for firewall,if so open the control panel and then click the update icon on avg.On my system sygate has to be taught any new program or update.

I'm running the same 7.5.524 version and it updated no problem this morning.

Just tried to update my partner's laptop with version 7.5.524 , same thing happened. Had to use task manager to close it. Three more goes and then it worked.

I gave up on Avg 8 as it slowed down our computers too much, ran like an amoebae on mogadon. Sounds like this is just another problem its got.

my 7.5 isnt working now on my laptop or my pc, when it has previously been fine. Why do companies have to !!!!!! with something until they ruin it - look at ebay now too.

AVG Free version 8 update problem

I thought v 8 was pay for it and the latest free one is 7.5 ?

AVG version 8 is the pay one.

The newer free version is slightly different as it's version 8.0.100 or something similar. It hasn't been around very long I don't think and looking at other forums (well, DH has), it is causing lots of problems.

DH insisted on downloading it now, whereas I would rather wait until some of the issues are sorted!

He is managaing to update it but manually, somehow - he downloads it and does it that way I think, so it is at least being updated.
