Is there anyone else experiencing problems with AOL ?
After booting up a box appears telling me that I will see another box about an essential download updated AOL, i.e. AOLDWLD.EXE
It says it will take just over one minute but seems to go on for ever. I did download it last night after asking AOL if it was genuine as it does not look like it is. I clicked SAVE instead of RUN as I wanted to do something else.
Tonight I have the same problem again. Does anyone understand what is going on here?

The problems began when you installed AOL's software. Plenty of tutorials on connecting with AOL (notoriously proprietary) without using their software. e.g. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080228071730AAs0LXx "She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?" The thing is, Superscaper, that for someone like me it is cheap. I pay only £9.99 each month for 24/7 access and as I am a light user - couple of hours each day it suits me. Also, I hear that it is really difficult trying to get rid of AOL.0

I never said anything about not connecting to AOL, just not to use their own software to connect. I'd say the same of any ISP to be honest although AOL are notorious for their software being pretty bad and really taking over your system."She is quite the oddball. You could get PlusNet for £9.99 per month.

Watch that the recent download established new connections into AOL UK, and that the disk you have will have the old connections - tel no's etc. This is mentioned in the recent download notes.
I spoke to AOL about this recently, and was told they are sending all existing AOL members a new disk (it is a roll out exercise over time, to iron out any bugs, and because of the numbers involved - so I can't tell you a date by which to expect the disk) - but if you ever have to re-install AOL - the old disk will re-establish the old connections and you may not be able to log in - so be careful.
I diaried the matter for the end of June to see what the state of play is by then.
On a side note about AOL - been with them for years and yes over those years, I have had problems - but not once have AOL let me down in sorting any and all problems - and that for me is always the bottom line - problems solved when they happen. If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.
