Nationwide internet banking card reader - issues on firefox web browser

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone is having any issues with using the nationwide card reader with the firefox web browser?

When I complete the 'signing' process (required when sending money to a 3rd party account (paying a bill)) and click 'Authorise' the next page is blank (with normal nationwide menu at the top). I have tried this 3 times with the same result no matter how long I wait.

I used MS IE for the 4th attempt, and it worked first time.

anyone else seen this?

Ben

    Hi Ben,

Yep, I''ve just had the exact same problem. Nationwide say VbV is compatible with Firefox but I don't get to the final confirmation page using FF 2.0 - tried IE7 and it seems just fine.

Good to know I'm not the only one!

  • I have just had this problem ie the screen goes blank (but it has worked at other times.)

The chap at Nationwide said there is a difficulty between firefox and the card reader, but to get the page back once it has gone blank, right click go to this frame and then to reload frame. I am afraid that I did not check this as I had had a go at starting again only to get a message to ring customer services. Rang customer services and had my conversation, I logged out logged back and it worked OK anyway!

I do hope these card readers dont become the norm!
  • Got the same issue myself just now running Firefox 2.0.0.14.

After getting the blank screen I repeated the whole procedure and got the message to contact customer services. I then reloaded this page via the browser, and was warned that I was about to post data. I OK'ed this warning and the payment was then made.

I suspect if I refreshed the blank screen that appeared in the first place that I'd also get the same behaviour.

I've sent a message to Nationwide about this. If they claim it's not an issue I'll send a link to this discussion, as I don't want to go back to Internet Explorer just because my online banking doesn't work!

The chap at nationwide is a numpty - all of their borrroky-twaddle tells you there is absolutely no link between the reader and your PC (at least that bit is true). I've been using these remote-login random number generators for many many years now - any "browser problems" are entirely due to idiot/incompetent/cheap programmers (I major in programming by the way).

NW are rapidly becoming a joke in the "industry" - last year was the "2 year-old "security" LOL questions", this year seems to be the "testing, what's that then" annus horribilus.

Declaritay.. I do have NW flex and cc, but only use them for travel - no longer keep much of a balance in my accounts with them (never that sure whether I could could get it back without sending DNA samples).

Absolutely - the problem is far more likely to be around them having created an HTML page which doesn't redirect properly because of some IE specific code.

There won't be something wrong with the reader - more about the implementation of the web pages.

Anyone having difficulties with Firefox reading a particular webpage or specific site can add the 'IE tab' widget. This 'toogles' between IE and Firefox within the FF browser and should allow you to use the card reader successfully.

I've just made my second payment. Was expecting problems after reading more of this thread but it worked fine again with firefox.

I have been using it several times with no problems. Good to know if I have problems with it, I can switch to IE. With Saga share direct, I cannot transfer money using firefox, I was told to use IE. I had to email CS to find this out.
