Can you request a partial payment to be made if paying through Direct Debit?

Ive got a bit of a hefty bill for this month and will not be able to make a full payment. I pay off my bill through Direct Debit every month.

Id like to make a partial payment. Is it possible to phone them and request the payment amount i would like to make. Is this possible through the Direct Debit method? Or would i need to change my payment method and cancel the Direct Debit from taking place. Im with Barclaycard.

Thanks

I'm fairly sure it depends on the provider. Your best bet is to ring them up and ask.

easiest way is to only have a direct debit for the minimum payment
so you are covered every month
then make a 2nd payment of whatever amount you want/need to

You normally need 10 days to make a change to a dd.
    £2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

    Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz

You can cancel it at your bank up to the day beforehand...

...but this will result in a £12 default charge being applied to the credit card account.

Even if you make the minimum payment by another means beforehand?

OP has a full payment DD set up.

    For minimum payment DD's...

In general (and I'm not familiar with Barclaycard...perhaps I should have said "might result"?), many providers (certainly MBNA & Ulster Bank [other RBS cards?]) will still collect the minimum payment DD if you make a payment by other means beforehand.

If your additional payment lands in the 3-5 day period before your due date, the DD will still be called on all cards.

Yeah but what if you make the minimum payment by other means and cancel your full payment DD...

You can cancel your DD at any time...just let the originator know.

This is perhaps what the OP will have to do, but I suspect they'd rather not...just modify it for some other value for this month.
