How to obtain MAC code/number

I've read too many contradictory articles on how to obtain this MAC code, on some I've read you have to get it from your telecoms provider, which for me would be BT, and I've also read you have to get it from your broadband provider, which for me is Bulldog(don't ask me why, but 12months ago it seemed like a good idea!!!!!).

I want to change to another provider, so once and for all can someone tell me where to get this code from.!!!!

Thanks in advance
Regards

Baiju

I'm afraid I don't know, but I'm sure the provider you are switching to would be more than happy to help you.

MAC's must always be issued by the ISP (in your case Bulldog),,,,

    ...BUT......

If you are on their LLU product (4/8Mbps service), then there are two possibilities with Bulldog (as they can also operate your voice service) - both ways will mean you have up to 10 days downtime until a new ISP can connect you again.

If you only have Bulldog for internet, and BT still charge you line rental (which sounds like the case), then you need to request Bulldog to terminate your broadband service - do this in writing, giving 30 days notice and make sure its Recorded Delivery (also send it by email, and fax if you can). Once terminated, place a fresh order for ADSL with your new ISP.

If Bulldog control both your ADSL and voice service, then the way to get back to BT is to call up and request that you return your service back to them (seen some people refer to this as "Return to Donor") - ensure you still give Bulldog a cancellation notice to ensure you don't breach the contract terms. Once your line is back with BT, you can then place an order for ADSL with your new ISP.

Unfortunately, once on an LLU service its not possible to move away without downtime. Note, you will most probably have to pay £47 activiation to your new ISP, as it will be treated as a new ADSL service on that line.

So are you on an LLU product (their 4Mbps service), or 2Mbps and under (their IPStream service which is via BTw's own equipment).

And who are you moving to?

I've also signed up with Be* (signed up 31/08/05). Make sure you get a referral to sign-up with, so you and the person referring you gets a month free each.

PM me if you'd like to use my referral ;) I had posted here

My exchange is live too, so hopefully not long until I'm on their service ;)
