I know what you are saying and I completely agree. My problem is that my husband just will not agree to us doing this and as he's the main breadwinner I don't really have much of a choice! He doesn't understand about money at all, nor is he interested. This has been the only thing he will agree to! He's a but of a nightmare when it comes to cash actually so i'm grateful for small mercies!
I do know what you are saying tho...

I can't actually get at the money until Nov. anyway so it's kind of a mute point! I wish I could change it but I can't. I do realise it seems daft but it's not a negotiable point!
Anyway, back to work for me... At least if we are still paying stuff off by then, we can use that money if we have to...
God I hope not tho! I've been in debt for years now and it seems like there is finally an end in sight!
    Next week -hopefully
    - debt will be under £2000! For the first time in I don't know how long...

Hi Jak and welcome to DFW.

I am with albertross with this one. I don't understand exactly what a "thrift" club is but surely it won't pay interest at anywhere near the rate you are paying on your credit card or overdraft.

Regarding your husband as he doesn't understand then just do it and tell him it's the best solution. But then if he's not interested then, as Albertross said, don't tell him. I'm sure he'll be a lot more interested when you can tell him the debts are paid off a lot sooner than he/you thought, saving yourselves lots more interest. Yay!

    Hope you get it sorted.

Revised Budget for the month of May: CASH!

Electricity- £35 on a metre and still got money left over from last month!

Food, groceries, milk and bread- £85 higher than last month as spending less time at work!

Household cleaning products and toiletries- £5 got loads in bulk last month on offer so hopefully won't touch!

Baby stuff- £10 got loads of vouchers so hopefully this will suffice!

Phone credit- £20 £10 each, pay as you go!

Lottery- £8 I know we could save a pound but it's a syndicate and i'd be gutted if they won when I wasn't in it!

Socialising- £50 Not up to much these days so hopefully just a cinema trip on Orange Weds!

Gifts- £21.58 Put away in a seperate account and hopefully won't have to touch!

Thrift- £80 No compromise on this one i'm afraid!

Health- £5 My vitamins are £2.99 and that should be it!

Beauty- £5 This includes haircuts and we both need one so may go up!

We have a liitle draw, a book for each category and a main money book to write our spends in! This way, we have a concrete record of what we spend!
I hate having to write in the books so I try not to spend anything at all!!!!

LOl! Thanks for restoring my sanity! I thought it must have been the late hour but no, it looks like I am normal(ish).

Hope you get your debts paid off soon.

Just be prepared to explain more about the thrift club as I have found some people will refer to it even though you have explained your reasons. Not everyone reads every post. Otherwise, this is a great site and there are so many great people giving excellent help and support.

    Good luck

Thanks- yes I will be prepared to explain about the thrift club. It's a shame really but there you go! I really hope I get my debts paid off soon! This is our first month with a proper budget so I really hope it works. Realistically I think it may need some tweaking but we'll soon see!
    Thanks for your support.

I put money into a thrift club for the year end. Great for christmas and for us car mot and service and several birthdays around that time as well. Saving is the main thing even if not the best interest rate.
