Following divorce and the hostilities that followed and to signal the start of a new life I decided to return to my maiden name - pretty simple you'd think. Well no-one will change anything without proof, not the banks, the credit card, student loan company, nothing. OK - I decide to change my passport first. Waited for notified delivery by courier - didnt turn up. Rescheduled but had a telephone call instead because the email address I gave wasnt in the name of my passport! No - I can't change anything until I get my passport. OK he says, do you have proof of ID in maiden name so the courier can deliver - NO I can't change anything until I have my passport. Eventually dig out a copy of my birth certificate which seems acceptable. Then while waiting in today RM put a card through the door saying 'sorry you werent in....' Problem is the special delivery will need collecting in my maiden name as thats the name on the card - must be the documents from the passport office. So, I'm still waiting for a courier that hasnt turned up, may or may not accept my birth certificate as ID so I can prove who I am to RM who have a special delivery package that proves who I am. So if I can get them to accept I am who I am and they hand over the passport I can prove who I am to everyone else!!!!!!!!!

My OH has picked up packaged for me in the past. He's supposed to take a signed card, and proof of my ID with him, but he never does and they haven't turned him away yet. Makes you feel all secure about our dear postal service doesn't it?Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Following on from richddap1's post you could write a letter to yourself giving 'you in your married name' permission to collect the parcel from the post office on behalf of 'you in your maiden name'. Then just take your drivers licence (which I presume is in your married name) to the post office as proof of ID.
Make sense? The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
Sorry scrap that. They might want you to come along with both IDs anyway. The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0

You should be able to get them to re-deliver (normally a few options listed on the card they drop).0

I use both my maiden name and my married name for different things - have never had a problem using my birth certificate as proof of name so you should be alright. I have even paid cheques in my maiden name into a bank account with my married name if I have shown my birth certificate...best of luck.0

I had a bankaccount in my maiden name and another in my married name. I was told by one of the cashiers that it was a legal requirement that all bank accounts were in my married name
I have only been married for 10 years!

A friend following her divorce has changed all her names, first, second and surname. She just chose names she liked.
She has just renewed her passport and asked me sign it for her saying I have known her for X years. I wasn't sure what to do as I still don't really know her by her new name.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
