Barclays - PINsentry gadget - GRRRRRRRRRR

Has anyone else had a problem with their Barclays PINsentry gadget?

it won't recognise my PIN to access my account on line, so I'm locked out :(

Have already asked my branch to send me a new PIN no., but they re-sent my old one -the locked one - so I still don't have access online Grrrrrrrr.
Consequently, I daren't use the card for shopping!

Do I need a new gadget or a new PIN - and who do I contact about this as there is nothing online or in Barclays literature and I don't want to make an extra journey into town just for the bank to send me the locked PIN out again.

Answers on a postcard please.

Sounds like you need a new card. The old cards aren't compatible with PinSentry.

You need to take your card to a cash dispenser with your current PIN (the old-one you were sent), put in your card and enter the PIN, choose PIN services as if you were changing your PIN (or whatever looks like that), then choose PIN unlock. You will then be asked to confirm your PIN and your card will be unlocked.

You may have entered the wrong PIN on the PinSentry 3 times in a row for it to have locked the card (if it has came up incorrect PIN 3 times it will have locked your card). The same thing will happen if you use it with the wrong PIN in a store 3 times, it will lock the card and you need to unlock it at the cash machine.

If that then does not work with PinSentry but the cash machine will let you use your card with your current (old-pin) to see your balance or withdraw money and you can use it at Chip and PIN terminals then will you need a new debit card as the Chip will need to be upgraded.

Barclays can tell you over the phone if the card's Chip is compatible with the PinSentry.

    Hope this helps.

Ummm - it is a new card but using the same PIN as old card which someone tried to used fraudently online about a month ago.

Will take a trip into town later and try the Barclays ATM to see if I can get it unlocked. If not, it's another trip into the bank tomorrow.

    Many thanks, Ann.

Yes, it does :) Have managed to log-in and check my account for the first time in almost 2 weeks.

    Many thanks again.

I am a technophile, I would love one of these toys, and how do I get one from my bank? I am with Alliance & Leicester.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

You have to be with a bank that offers them. I don't think Alliance & Leicester do.

Barclays, Natwest/RBS and Nationwide are the main one I think that offer them but only Barclays and Nationwide seem to be sending them to everyone. Natwest are sending them out based on how often you add new payees to your account online.

Be careful what you wish for. My main problem with the PINSentry is that it is too big. Means I leave it at home. Recently I was abroad and needed to get access to my account. PINSentry was at home and the old way of working didn't for some reason.

Are Barclays sending them automatically to everyone or do you have to request one? I'm still logging in the way I always have done and I haven't had any new payees recently.
