Desperate to work from home

Hi
I'm a single parent working fulltime already to make ends meet. I'm afraid I'm finding it increasing hard to pay all the bills including my mortgage on my single salary.

I don't want something for nothing but I just can't find any genuine opportunities to work from home. I would love to work using my PC but can't find how to get a start. The only work from home opportunities I see in the papers involve some sort of door-to-door catalogue work or party plans neither of which would suit me at all.

Please could anybody give me some pointers or tell me who to contact?

Thanks
W
By the way I live in Antrim and although this is only my 2/3 post on these boards I am a regular 'reader' and think the advise given here is fantastic and shows real community spirit.

i heard teletech were a good firm. i applied and was offered a job with a couple of weeks. Its call centre work but you do it from the comfort of your own home.

Would help if you could give an idea of the type of work that would be suitable for you? A lot of the online schemes don't pay very much but you could build up some extra over a period of time. As mentioned above, Tele Tech seem to be quite good.

Please avoid the 'stuffing envelopes' scenario, they're generally designed to extract money from you.

Thanks very much for your replies so far. I will certainly check out those links.

I am an experienced typist and would ideally love to do typing from home. I feel sure that there must be a market out there, maybe small companies who cannot employ a typist. Or even large companies who outsource their typing eg reports etc. But I just don't seem to be able to find how to get into this.

Might be worth checking out universities and colleges, a lot of students would be willing to pay to get their thesis, etc. typed up.

Out of curiousity, are you getting, or do you know about working tax credit? You haven't mentioned it in your post and if you aren't getting it you should apply for it.All us Antrim folk should stick together!!!

I have tried going down that route before. Since most students have their own or access to PCs these days they aren't willing to pay anyone to do it for them.

I'm afraid I fall into that category of people who earn just over the limit to get Working tax credit. Sometimes I think I'd be better off not working but that's not me.

I know you talked about computer work but what sort of skills do you have? Are there other possibilities from home (e.g. washing and ironing etc.)

Think the market around here is flooded for the laundry business. Next door neighbour does it.

Skills - Word Processing, Desk-top-publishing, data entry. Have done lot of work in the past designing booklets for teaching resources eg 11+ practice and Key Stage papers, but this seems to have dried up now.

have just been on their website and they seem to be offering jobs for fluent Swedish/Finnish/Estonian speakers only. On reading the Mse thread they appear to offer customer care roles sometimes. Is this was you were offered ram? I would be interested in this sort of thing myself.
