Inland Revenue-WTC/CTC

I got a letter from Inland Revenue this morning saying I have been overpaid £3197.00 on my WTC/CTC award. >:(
I had to phone them - 13 minutes on 0845 no. at my expense. They said it will be 7-10 days before "re-instated". This is the second time this year I've had a letter, the first had my circumstances wrong. The bloke on the phone said that they hadn't processed my claim properly! (How many months does this take?!) He said issuing these letters gets people to respond quickly.
They are so incompetent .... how many people do they upset/annoy every day - still? >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

My dad was told he was overpaid, but never recevied any money. When he appealed, he was told that not receiving anything was not a good reason for appeal and they were still going to take their money back.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

He went to his MP as he didn't know what else to do (and I hadn't found this website so had nowhere to ask for help!) . Eventually, my dad received a letter of apology and some compensation. And he was also told he hadn't been overpaid, he'd been underpaid!Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

What it means is that everyone has to be on edge, never sure of whether their tax credits have been worked out properly. I feel sorry for the ones with genuine overpayments (assuming mine isn't - bloke on phone said it was sorted out), suddenly having your income and budget messed up through no fault of your own. >:(Torgwen..........

The muppets that are being referred to are ordinary people having to implement a new system with minimal training. The tax credit computer system works out the awards from information inputted from claimants forms-there are a massive number of incorrect entries on these forms that generate incorrect awards- it is not only the Inland Revenue that make the mistakes, the general public claiming can also be at fault without realising it because the entries on their forms were wrong. The letters being generated re overpayments are being issued for cases where the renewals have not been received-there will always of course be errors
and there will always be forms misplaced by the Inland Revenue due to the massive numbers received but it is wrong to lay the blame solely at their door. There will also of course always be staff who make errors with advice due to inexperience but this does not mean that all Inland Revenue staff are incompetant...any large organisation will have some less than perfect staff. The Inland Revenue deal with constant abuse as they directly affect the money that people you receive-this is very demoralising for staff and most do still give a proffessional service. It is interesting also to note that even Inland Revenue staff who do not have children can qualify for WTC as they are so poorly paid!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0
