Just read through your thread and realised we come from similar experiences. Also had 3 endowments - bought our house in 1988 - cashed in endowments and then moved house again. So in 2010 we were faced with a new mortgage of 111000! Have been overpaying and now have 56000 left. Have fallen off the overpaying wagon for the past few months, had a bit of a 'live for the moment' attitude but am nearly back on board with it now.
You have done amazingly well to clear so much! :T I want ours gone in 3 years as DH job is very stressful and would like choices for him. Could clear it quicker but want a life too!
Fingers crossed for Mrs Ernie's job but it looks like you will be MF soon. Well done.

Good luck.Mortgage free is great but unfortunately you still have plenty of other bills.After moving to a bigger house last year we are now trying to get other bills down.Have got a retentions deal with virgin,had a water meter fitted and just changed gas/electricity supplier to co op.
Bills cant change are council tax,went up 2 bands as house has extension and tv licence.
