Most of the stuff on ebay near me seems to be the base unit and not the whole package. Would it be cheaper to do it this way?

A lot of packages seem to come without monitors nowadays. I guess you could pick up a real cheap monitor off ebay or somewhere.

I'd be careful buying a computer 2nd hand. There are so many things that can go wrong with them and if your not a whizz you could actually be purchasing a world of hurt!

    Thanks John,

I've decided to try and find one on ebay as I can sell some stuff to recoup some/all of the money and I have £150 in my paypal account from things I've sold recently so wont have to put so much to it!

Any good deals to be had on there? I live in Wolverhampton so anything local to there (within 25 miles really) would be great so I don't have to pay postage!

http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?lang=&product_id=22930&session=8f5ebdc3be4805945742cce04d30f984 is £179 - You could withdraw your Paypal money and add £20. It doesn't have great graphics card so playing games on it wouldn't be the best idea.

I wouldn't recommend ebay as I said...But if you've made your mind up lol!

I would only recommend buying computers off ebay if you know how to fix problems etc. This is because they are either used (i.e. possibly on sale because they have prob) or home built (in which case won't come with hard and fast warranties etc). You'd be far safer buying from a recognised retailer as you could then take it back.

For your needs, the computer doesn't have to have fantastic specs - Possibly pop into PC World and have a chat? Decide on model you want and then barter with them instor. If they won't budge buy it from them online (you get 2.5% off with Quidco) and online prices are usually cheaper anyway. Just another option to explore.

Umm yeah it would work for what you want. Although the thread I sent you gets you 6 times as much storage space and twice as much RAM (random access memory) than the link you've shown. Although you don't get a monitor with it.

If your looking at downloading movies, storing photos etc - Y|ou'd need a big hard disc (120gb minimum I reckon), as you don't play games a good graphics card isn' necessary. RAM + the processor are what make your sysem tick, so the higher the numbers here, the better for you. I think 1mb of RAM is low entry level, and you really need to be looking for 2mb nowadays (although RAM is cheap to upgrade).

AS for monitors - DPn't go for the old crt ones but the flatscreen ones like on your ebay link.
